💡 EVENT INFORMATION

Startup Weekends are intensive 54-hour events, designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs. Beginning with Friday night pitches and continuing through brainstorming, business plan development, and basic prototype creation, Startup Weekends culminate in Sunday night demos and presentations.

Teams get to share their ideas with industry leaders and local entrepreneurs, and receive valuable insights or feedback from them.

Participants create working startups during the event and collaborate with like-minded individuals outside of their daily networks.

🚀  VISION

Startup Weekend is centered around action, innovation and education. Whether you are looking for feedback on an idea, a co-founder, specific skill sets, or a team to help you execute, Startup Weekends are the perfect environment to test your idea and take your first step towards building your own startup.

💬  FAQ

  • What is the language spoken during your event?

Mainly in English, with professional interpretation to Chinese by Akkadu. No worries on the language barrier!

  • Who are the other participants?

Similar to you, people interested to become entrepreneurs, tech geeks, technical professionals, marketing professionals etc.

  • Do participants have to come with an existing business or idea?

We do not recommend using an existing or mature business team or idea. It is better to come with a new or early-stage idea, where you can develop during the hackathon.

  • We already have a team and a project, can we still join?

Definitely! You can come as an individual without an idea (and join others after the initial pitch) or a team with an existing idea. Take this opportunity to test a new idea and meet new people!

  • Do projects still continue after Startup Weekend?

Most of the projects won't move forward but some will, it really depends on you and your team. Nevertheless, you will most likely meet your future co-founders and learn a ton! Successful startup ideas born from Startup Weekend include Lian Meng (raised ten millions in RMB and topped App Store rankings) and Aftership (raised millions in USD) etc.

  • What type of ideas do I need to pitch?

Anything related to technology / internet in a broader sense. E.g. an app to find second hand clothes, a website to find local tour guides, a couponing system for restaurants, a social network for pet owners, etc.

  • What exactly can we expect to make?

We recommend teams to code and build actual prototypes (any simple Minimum Viable Product will suffice). Prepare pitch decks for the final pitch; content includes business model and market validation. You will learn these during the hackathon!

  • Do I need to stay the entire weekend?

Yes! Otherwise, it would be unfair to your team. If you have personal emergencies, please contact the organising team.

  • I'm working for my own startup or a company, does it make sense to come?

Yes, this hack doesn't expect participants to move forward immediately and resign on Monday! Make sure you do not use a mature idea that you are currently involved in. Come and learn new things, make new friends, connect with coaches and judges, test a new idea, and build something cool!

  • I don't want to come the entire weekend, can I just come and look?

You can come to watch the final pitches on Sunday: Get a Sunday audience ticket

Startup Weekend is not a conference, a workshop or an exhibition. Attendees are expected to work hard and create a new project within 2.5 days!
