Nanjing Development Zone was established in 1992 and approved as a National Development Zone in 2002. Located in the northeast of Nanjing, east of Zijin Mountain and south of the Yangtze River, the development zone is 15 km away from the downtown area and has development space of more than 200 square kilometers (Xingang area, Qixia area, Crystal Valley area, Longtan harbor economic zone hub and vector space)
The development level of the Nanjing Development Zone ranks among the top ten on the national level. Among the promoted leading industries are high-end equipment, photoelectric display, biological medicine and modern service industry.
In 2016, the Nanjing Development Zone achieved an industrial output value of 372 billion yuan (up to one thirdof the city), with an import and export volume of 9.9 billion US dollars. As of March 2017, the development zone has introduced 3500 enterprises, of which about 500 foreign-funded enterprises with a total investment of 11 billion US dollars, 73 of the world's top 500 enterprises.
