Since October 2015, Professor Engel has served as Senior Executive Vice President of Daimler Greater China Ltd., and as Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars RD, Program Management, Procurement & Supplier Quality China for Mercedes-Benz Passenger Vehicles.

Professor Engel joined Daimler-Benz AG in 1995. From 1995 to 2006, he worked in the area of brake control, driver assistance system and chassis systems development.

From 2006 to 2014, he was the Chief Engineer and Project Director of the Mercedes-Benz MFA platform.

From 2014 to 2015, he was the Head of Development for the new generation compact cars.

Dr. Engel obtained his Ph.D. from the Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany in 1998. And since 2003, he has also a lectureship at the Kaiserslautern University of Technology.

Michael Bargende is a full professor at the Institute of Automotive Engineering Stuttgart (IFS), University of Stuttgart, where he holds the Chair of Automotive Powertrains. In joint appointment he is also a member of the Board of Management of the Research Institute for Automotive Engineering and Vehicle Engines Stuttgart (FKFS) in Stuttgart, Germany.
His move to academia in 1998 followed a 17-year career in research and development at Daimler-Benz and Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart, Germany.
He has been the advisor for more than 100 PhD dissertations on combustion engines and powertrain-related topics. He is the author or co-author of more than 420 scientific publications (75 SAE Papers) on the subjects of combustion, thermodynamics, gas exchange, NVH, mechanics, modeling, simulation and control of internal combustion engines, as well as hybrid powertrains, and he is the editor or co-author of several professional books (reference books, volumes, conference proceedings) on the subject of Gasoline and Diesel Engines, Natural Gas Engines and Hybrid Powertrains.
Michael Bargende is a member of various scientific organizations, associations and councils, and he is a reviewer for several German research associations, such as DFG and AiF. In 2015, he was elected to become an SAE Fellow.

Prof. Dr. Frank Henning has been a Fellow of the Society for the Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering SAMPE since 2020 and Fellow of the Society of Plastics Engineers since 2013 and is acting President of SAMPE Germany. In 2009, he was named Deputy Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology (ICT) in Pfinztal, Germany, as well as Founder and Director of Fraunhofer FIL in Augsburg, Germany, which is the Fraunhofer IGCV today. In 2008, Henning was appointed Professor for Light-Weight Technologies at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany. In 2005, Henning became Director of the Competence Centre for Automotive Light-Weight Solutions.

Henning holds a Ph.D. degree in Composites Engineering from the Universität Stuttgart in Germany earned in 2001. He published numerous articles in refereed journals and owns patents in the field of polymer manufacturing. He was awarded multiple times for his achievements and introduced materials and technologies in industrial applications.
