In honor of World Mental Health Day, on Thursday October 19th the Community Center Shanghai(CCS) in partnership with Butler & Whites, will welcome our community to gather together to hear the stories of five individuals. Through the telling of their own lived experience, the sharing of their life journey, we hope to normalize the experience of mental health distress & reduce the stigma around suffering.
An 'Open Mic' is a space where people can come to show their talent and skill in a specific area and can include the sharing of music, poetry or prose. Our Lived Experience Open Mic refers to the verbal sharing of an individual's history, their life experiences, what has happened to them and what this may mean to them both then and now.
We know that a sense of isolation and disconnection are some of the contributing factors to mental health problems and suicide ideation. By attending our Lived Experience Open Mic, people have the chance to hear about the life experience that may be similar or different from their own, and through the story telling, feel how they may connect and resonate with the person in relation to their own life, and what they may be dealing with or have dealt with in the past. This connection through shared experience, is a meaningful way and opportunity to receive support and maybe even hope for those who may be suffering.
If you are interested in attending our event to hear the powerful stories of lived experience through the speakers' mental health and their life journey, come join us on Thursday October 19th, 7-9pm at Butler & Whites in Taizifang, near Sinan Road, Xuhui District.
