Human life involves many challenges and changes across our lifespan so being equipped with tools to help us understand and manage some of these times of ex-treme loss, distress, pain and uncertainty can be a preventative and stabilizing force as we navigate our existence. An offshoot of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy aims to increase psychological flexibility and resilience through a combination of present moment awareness, acceptance of our current reality, as well as the recognition of our overall values and goals, which in turn, aims to provide us with insight to modify our behavior. It is the process of gaining more present moment awareness and acceptance and aiming to behave in ways that are more aligned with our overall goals, that then works to stabilize our-selves psychologically which can be hugely beneficial when we feel things are be-yond our control.
