Adegboyega Ogunwale, MBBS, PGD, MSc, LLM, FWACP is a Senior Consultant Psychiatrist at the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, Nigeria. In addition to his medical qualifications, he holds a Master of Laws degree in Medical Law and Ethics from the University of Edinburgh. His publication interests have focused on general adult psychiatry, abnormal homicide, mental health services in prison, the nexus between substance use and crime, adolescent offending as well as mental health legislation. Since completing his post-graduate fellowship in psychiatry in 2010, he has published 34 scientific peer-reviewed articles and one book chapter. He has also presented at least 26 conference papers at both local and international conferences. He was awarded the Rafaelsen Young Investigator’s award of the International College of Neuropsychopharmacology in 2011 and the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ international bursary in 2012. He was awarded the Chevening Scholarship for an MSc in Forensic Mental Health Research in 2017 and graduated with a distinction from King’s College, London. He is on the faculty of the West African College of Physicians, Faculty of psychiatry and has contributed to the development of curriculum for training in forensic psychiatry in the college. He is an Associate Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Faculty of Psychiatry. In recognition of his international reach, he was invited into the membership of the Mental Health Law and Policy Institute (MHLPI) of Simon Fraser University, Canada in 2012. He is also a member of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services (IAFMHS) and is the current Chair of the Africa Interest Group of the association.
