Carly leads a team focussing on Energy Transition, Climate Change, Investment, and Commercial and Economic Diplomacy.

Prior to this, she was Counsellor (Economic) at the Australian High Commission in London, where she worked to enhance the Australia-UK trade and economic relationship.

Carly was previously based in the Office of Trade Negotiations at Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), as Director of the Goods and Government Procurement team and lead Rules of Origin negotiator for the Australia-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Prior to working at DFAT, she worked on industrial goods market access and rules across Australia’s bilateral and regional FTAs at the Department of Industry.

Frank Jotzo is professor of environmental economics at the Australian National University’s Crawford School of Public Policy, and Head of Energy at the ANU Institute for Climate Energy and Disaster Solutions. His research and project leadership spans policy instruments for emissions reductions, economics of decarbonisation, opportunities in the transition to net zero emissions systems and international dimensions of climate change and energy policy.

He is committed to the education, research, and consultation of energy and mineral resources strategy for sustainable development.

Nicole is an industry analyst, geologist, and project manager with diverse experience across the mining and exploration industry, and government and scientific research organisations in Australia and Finland. As part of WWF-Australia’s climate team working to expediate Australia’s transition to renewable energy and low-emissions industries, Nicole works with the iron ore and steel sector in the Asia-Pacific region. WWF-Australia is also developing guidelines to protect nature and equity during decarbonisation, and advocates for a fast, best and just transition.

Jorrit Gosens builds models of energy and resource markets, with a particular focus on Australia-China trade in thermal and coking coal, iron ore, and how these will be affected by plans for decarbonisation including the switch to green steel. He has been researching Chinese energy policy and Chinese renewable energy industry formation for over a decade. Jorrit directs the Strategic Research Spoke ‘Energy Transitions’ at the Australian Centre on China in the World, and is creator and editor of China Energy Portal, a website that provides translations of Chinese energy policy and statistics.

Xiliang Zhang is a tenured professor of the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology, director of the Institute of Energy, Environment and Economy, and Chief Scientist of Center for Climate Governance and Carbon Finance of Institute for Carbon Neutrality, Tsinghua University. He is also a member of the National Experts Panel on Climate Change and the president of the China Emissions Trading Association, CSES (CETA). His research spans low-carbon energy economy transformation, climate change economics, and climate change policy and mechanism design. He was a lead author of the fourth and fifth IPCC Climate Change Assessment Report.

Fei Teng is a tenured professor of the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology and deputy director of the Institute of Energy, Environment and Economy, Tsinghua University. His main research interests include integrated assessment modelling, energy system analysis, global and domestic climate policy and governance. He has published nearly 100 papers in Science, Nature Climate Change and other academic journals, with more than 2000 citations. He is the Secretary General of the Energy Systems Engineering Committee of the China Energy Research Society, a member of the Energy Economy Committee of the Chinese Electrical Engineering Society, a member of the Committee on Climate Change and Low Carbon Development of the Chinese Meteorological Society, a member of the China National Committee of the Future Earth Initiative, and a member of the China Forum Expert Group. He is the lead author of the Fifth and Sixth Climate Change Assessment Reports of the IPCC. From 2007 to 2017, he was a member of China’s negotiation team on climate change.

Shaojun Zeng, researcher, PhD in Economics, is now taking position of the Academic Vice Chairman and Secretary General of China New Energy Chamber of Commerce (CNECC). He was ever postdoctoral in management science and engineering in School of Public Policy & Management of Tsinghua University. Besides, he is the founding member of China Carbon Neutrality Forum. He also serves as the distinguished professor of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the visiting professor of Guizhou University. He has been engaged in the public policy and national strategy research on new energy and climate change for nearly twenty years. He has led and participated in more than 60 major research projects at the ministerial level, and won more than 10 awards for his outstanding academic achievements from the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration.

Daniela Assis is responsible for Austrade’s business development initiatives in green economy, including infrastructure, services, resources and energy in Greater China. She is also the Post Manager for Austrade Beijing. Prior to this she was Trade and Investment Commissioner in Shanghai from January 2021 to December 2023 and in Seoul (acting) from 2018 to 2020, leading Austrade’s initiatives across a range of sectors, including energy (hydrogen and smart cities), education, health and technology. Since her commencement with Austrade in 2013, much of Daniela’s work has been focussed on the Resources and Energy sector, with a focus on renewable energy.

Kylie Catchpole has research interests in solar cells, energy systems, energy resilience and the broader energy transition. She has been awarded several fellowships including a Future Fellowship from the Australian Research Council and she was awarded the inaugural John Booker Medal for Engineering Science from the Australian Academy of Science. She has been a plenary speaker at the World Conference on Photovoltaic Energy Conversion and the Asia-Pacific Solar Research Conference. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Her research spans energy-environment-economy modelling, mechanism design of emissions trading system and international carbon trading.

Howard is a board member of the Climate Policy Initiative and Climate Works Centre, and was previously Chair of the Global Water Partnership, Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund and Director General of the Global Green Growth Institute. He has served as Senior Advisor on Sustainable Development for the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Special Advisor on Green Growth to AusAID. He held several appointments at ambassadorial level in the Australian foreign service.
