Yue-Sai Kan (靳羽西) is a Chinese American, Emmy-winning television host and producer, successful entrepreneur, fashion icon, bestselling author and humanitarian. She was born in Guilin and grew up in Hong Kong, before she moved to Hawaii to study for a degree in music at Brigham Young University in Hawaii.
In 1972, Yue-Sai went to New York with the intention to get involved in public relations and television production work. There, she founded Yue-Sai Kan Productions and created her first major TV program, a weekly series called "Looking East". The program was the first of its kind to introduce Asian cultures and customs to a growing and receptive American audience. Later on, she has also been invited to host the first live broadcast from China on the occasion of the 35th Anniversary of the People's Republic of China.
In 1992, Yue-Sai Kan successfully transformed herself from a TV personality to an entrepreneur by creating the Yue-Sai cosmetics brand which became China’s leading cosmetics company. Furthermore, she has succesfully published many books.
Throughout her life, Yue-Sai Kan has been deeply involved in charity work. Her many charitable activities include utilizing her own funds to build schools and libraries in poor regions of China and awarding scholarships to outstanding underprivileged students in Chinese high schools and universities. Besides, she is a board member of the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation, one of China's biggest charitable organizations committed to improving the health of women and children.
Liz Mohn represents the fifth generation of the Bertelsmann/Mohn family, owner of the Bertelsmann media group. She is vice-chair of the Bertelsmann Stiftung’s Executive Board and its Board of Trustees. She is also chair of the Bertelsmann Verwaltungsgesellschaft Executive Board and a member of the Supervisory Board at Bertelsmann SE. She serves as president of the German Stroke Foundation, an organization she founded, and chairs the board of the Liz Mohn Foundation for Culture and Music. She also chairs the Board of Trustees of the Association of German Music Schools.
