2014 GALA ACHIEVEMENTS
Innovation and Creativity
At WAB’s last Gala, One Night in Rio, more than 400,000 RMB was raised for various school and community needs.
ES and MS Makerspace
Using money raised, we helped to build the ES and MS Makerspace, where we combine equipment, community and learning in order for students to design, create and manufacture. The Makerspace promotes playful inquiry and creative problem-solving skills.
ECC Digital Landscapes
Funds raised allow ECC students to explore a digital landscape with light tables, portable projectors and overhead projectors.
MS and HS 3D Printers
Donations were used to purchase five 3D printers for the MS and HS, enabling students to print mechanical models and conduct experiments for group and individual projects.
Whiteboard Desks
63 whiteboard desks were purchased for HS Science classrooms. The desks are regularly used by students and teachers for projects, games and revision.

Money raised at the WAB Gala for WheelsPlusWings has provided two children with wheelchairs.

WAB 20th Anniversary Celebrations
At WAB’s last Gala, One Night in Rio, more than 400,000 RMB was raised for various school and community needs.
The 2014-2015 school year was filled with joyous celebrations of WAB’s 20th anniversary. Gala fundraising enabled us to provide WAB20 Tiger t-shirts to all students, to give WAB20 tiles to staff and to cover the cost of ‘Nian’ cookies and the WAB20 Family Memory Game gift.

WAB ANNUAL FUNDRAISING PROJECTS 2009-2013
Miao Liang Environmental Education Center
- Solar photovoltaic system 48m2 silicone cells feeding DC current to 96 close cell truck batteries passing through 10 inverters to power 8.5Kw AC to center.
- Storage shed.
- Trailer for raft - used for river crossing of people and equipment to Miao Liang.
- Yurt reinforcements and covers.
- New classroom floor sealing and door.
- Replacement of 9 failed solar DC/AC converters (3 years old).
- Environmental protection rainwater diversion channel to protect yurt area.
- River crossing 4WD vehicle for equipment emergency crossings to the center.
- Rebuilt Jiashan’s Primary school.
- Jia Shan/WAB partnership relationship, including students/staff exchanges and technology.
- Jia Shan/WAB partnership: Renovated the school’s sports fields and provided training and equipment for additional recreation activities, including table tennis, basketball and soccer.
- Musical instruments for students including 20 steel drums, 40 African drums and 12 guitars
- Projection screen to project live streamed events in school to an audience anywhere
- Cameras including Canon XF105, Phantom 2 & GoPro
- New Tricaster to stream off-campus events, plus iPad minis and adapters for camera control on quad-copter and Wi-Fi capture
