Zhejiang province, lying to the south of Shanghai and along China's southeast coast, boasts a land area of 105,500 square kilometers and a resident population of 57.31 million, both similar to South Korea. The GDP was 849.2 billion US dollars and the GDP per capita is 14,907 US dollars in 2018, both ranking among top 5 in China. Hangzhou, the provincial capital, is not only a famous historical city of great attractions but also the venue for the G20 Summit in 2016. Marco Polo, who arrived here in the 13th century, praised Hangzhou as the most magnifcent city in the world. Nowadays Alibaba, the international e-commerce giant, is also headquartered here. In addition, Ningbo-Zhoushan port is the largest port in the world while Yiwu is reputed as the largest marketplace globally with numerous goods in trading.
During the summit, nearly 80 officials and entrepreneurs from Zhejiang and 120 German counterparts will take part, including senior provincial leaders, the Chinese ambassador to Germany, Director General of Zhejiang Department of Commerce and dozens of entrepreneurs, including Wuchan Zhongda Group (a Fortune 500 company), Zhejiang International Business Group (largest importer and exporter in Zhejiang), Chint Group (large electric and new energy company), Geely Auto and Alibaba. The main purpose is to promote bilateral investment and trade cooperation, with emphasis on digital economy and e-commerce.
