Dominic Johnson-Hill (Plastered 8)

Dominic Johnson-Hill

Plastered 8

Dominic Johnsons-Hill is a British citizen who arrived in Beijing in 1993 with only a backpack and a small amount of money. He decided to stay in the country, learn Chinese and experience Chinese’s life. He started from scratch and two years later, opened a first market research business.
In the 2000’s, he created a T-Shirt brand named “Plastered8” and opened a store in a small alley called “Nanluogu xiang” near where he lived. With his neighbours, they all decided to move the small alley into the busy place that today, we all know well. This ordinary alley is now one of the most visited tourist attractions in Beijing. In 2008, he was awarded the honour of being the British Entrepreneur of the year.
At the same time, he was also a TV presenter for “The Vintage Hunter”, an internationally broadcasted program.
He loves sharing his experience - especially with students – and has he delivered speeches in more than 60 Chinese universities.

“Beijing offers an extremely stimulating, incredibly exciting life, free from the constraints and watchful eye of my own culture, second-hand markets, great friends, and controlled chaos.”
