Andrew Shirman
Co-Founder, Education in Sight and Mantra; Curator, Beijing II Global Shapers HubAndrew is a Beijing-based social entrepreneur who is the CEO and Founder of the NGO Education In Sight, and the Co-Founder of the buy-one-donate-one eyewear brand Mantra. His life changed after spending two years teaching in the countryside of China. While there, he saw the everyday challenges his students faced, especially those with poor vision who couldn't see in class. This pushed him to found a non-profit that brought eye exams and glasses directly to students in schools, and later, a for-profit sunglasses brand with a buy-one, donate-one model. Since starting, these two organizations have worked together to deliver over 22,000 pairs of glasses to children in rural China. Alongside his work at Education In Sight and Mantra, Andrew is also the 2017-2018 Curator of Beijing's Global Shapers network, an initiative of the World Economic Forum that brings together young leaders across the world to address the complex challenges of the future.
