Samuel Popkin is a noted political scientist and professor at UC San Diego. Popkin has been a consulting analyst in 6 presidential campaigns, serving as consultant to the Democratic candidate on polling and strategy and to the CBS News election units on survey design and analysis. The title of his most recent book is The Candidate: What it Takes to Win (and Hold) the White House (2012). His current research focuses on presidential campaigns and the relationship of public opinion to foreign policy. Popkin received his BS and PhD from MIT and taught at Yale and Harvard before coming to UCSD.
