Professor Zhiwu Chen is the Director of the Asia Global Institute (AGI) and the Victor and William Fung Professor in Economicsat the School of Economics and Finance, the University of Hong Kong (HKU). His research covers finance theory, sociology of finance, economic history, emerging markets, and China’s economy and capital markets. Prior to joining the AGI as Director, he has beena professor of finance for 18 years at Yale University and a Special-Term Visiting Professor at the School of Economics at Peking University.
Professor Chen started his career by publishing research papers in top economics and finance journals on topics related to financial markets and theories of asset pricing. Around 2001, he began to expand research beyond mature markets by investigating market development and institution-building issues in the context of China’s transition process and other emerging markets. He successfully led efforts to construct historical financial and social databases from China’s historical archives and has written on economic/social history topics. In 2013, he started the annual Summer School for Quantitative History at Tsinghua University and continues to organize it at Peking University, with the goal of promoting quantitative historical research in China and beyond.
Professor Chen is on the International Advisory Board of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), the Global Advisory Council of China Minsheng Investment Group (CMIG), and on the board of directors at IDG Energy Investment, the Bank of Communications, and Noah Holdings. He wason the Board of Trustees of the Yale China Association, the 12th and 13th Five-Year Plan Advisory Commission to the Beijing Municipal Government, and theChief Academic Advisor to two 10-episode CCTV documentary series, “Wall Street” and “Money”.He also served on the Expert Advisory Board for the formation of the China Investment Corporation (2007), and on the board of directors at PetroChina (2011-17), Lord Abbett China (2007-15), Jiayuan.com International (2011-12), and China Eagle Securities Corp (2002-05). His work has been widely published and regularly featured in major newspapers and magazines in the United States, Hong Kong, China and many other countries. He was the co-founder and partner of Zebra Capital Management from 2001 to 2011. In Burson-Marsteller’s 2012 ‘G20 Influencers’ report, Professor Chen was listed as one of the top ten political influencers in China.
He is a frequent contributor to media publications in China on topics of economic policy, market development,institutional reform and historical research. His list of books published in China includes: How Is Wealth Created? (2005), Media, Law and Markets (2005), Why are the Chinese Industrious and Yet Not Rich (2008), Irrational Overconfidence (2008), The Logic of Finance (2009), 24 Wealth Lectures (2009), and Assessing China’s Economic Growth of the Past 30 Years (2010), and The Logic of Finance 2: Path to Individual Freedom (2015). He has received research awards including the Graham and Dodd Award (2013), the Pacesetter Research Award (1999), the Merton Miller Prize (1994), and the Chicago Board Options Exchange Competitive Research Award (1994). He has also received a number of book awards in China and Hong Kong, among which are 23 awards for "The Logic of Finance" in China and Hong Kong, and the best book award from hexun.comfor “Why are the Chinese Industrious and Yet Not Rich".
Professor Chen received his PhD in financial economics from Yale University in 1990; MS in systems engineering from Changsha Institute of Technology in 1986; and BS in computer science from Central-South University in 1983. He was Assistant Professor of Finance at University of Wisconsin – Madison (1990-95); Associate Professor of Finance at Ohio State University (1995-99); and has been a Professor of Finance at Yale University since 1999and the Victor and William Fung Professor in Economics at HKU since July 2016.

MARGARET CORNISH

As the Canada China Business Council’s Senior Advisor (Bilateral Trade Agreements) Margaret Cornish is currently participating in aeleven sector, four city consultation with members and trade organizations and will draft the report to be submitted to the Canadian Government. This will be a key submission representing the view of Canadian business. The Institute of Asian Research at the University of British Columbia appointed Ms Cornish as a Fellow with particular focus on their Masters Program in Public Policy and Global Affairs.
Ms Cornish’s’ career has spanned public service, senior positions with a Canadian Bank and brokerage firm, the Executive Directorship of Canada China Business Council and finally she served most recently as the Chief Representative and Senior China Advisor in Beijing for Bennett Jones LLP in Beijing. While living in Beijing she also served as the China specialist on the Council of Advisors on International Affairs for then Leader of the Canadian Opposition, now Prime Minister RightHonourable, Justin Trudeau.
Margaret’s first posting in the Canadian Foreign Service was as a Third Secretary in the Canadian Embassy in Beijing (1972-74). She joined the international department of the Bank of Nova Scotia in 1980 serving as leadfor the other Canadian bank on various sovereign debt restructuring committees. She moved to ScotiaCapital, the brokerage arm and rose to top raked security analyst in equity research. During the 1990s she led several early investment missions to China.
In order to return to working on China she moved to the Canada China Business Council as Executive Director (2003-2008). She was instrumental in organizing the Gala and Policy program events surrounding the state visits of President Hu and Premier Wen in Canada and Prime Minister Martin to China. As the 2010 Research Fellow of the Canadian International Council she researched and wrote a paperBehaviour of Chinese SOEs: Implications for investment and co-operation in Canada, February 2012was co-publishedby the Canadian International Council and the Canadian Council of Chief Executives.
She was recruited by Bennett Jones LLP, a large Canadian law firm, well known in the oil and gas sector, to open their office in Beijing (2010-2015). She began her career in the Canadian Foreign Service with postings at the Canadian delegation to the UN in 1971 when China regained it seat, at the Canadian Embassy in Beijing as well as the Canadian delegation to the European Community. In 1980 she joined Scotiabank to work on sovereign debt restructuring before becoming a top-ranked securities analyst at a leading Canadian brokerage, ScotiaCapital.
From 2003-2008 Margaret served as Executive Director of the Canada China Business Council. She has taught at the business schools of Queen’s and Wilfred Laurier. She was an Associate Fellow of the Canadian International Council. From 2010 -2015 she served as Senior Advisor and Beijing Chief Representative of the Beijing office of Bennett Jones.
Ms Cornish is now planning to work on projects that will deepen the understanding of Canadians with respect to China especially with respect to our trade and investment relationship. She has been approached to work on sector-based trade studies in Canada. Her interests extend more broadly to explaining and deepening the knowledge and understanding of China’s rise as a world power taking increasing leadership role in international and regional matters.

Pierre Dorbes

Pierre Dorbes joined the ICRC in 1995. He served as a Communications Delegate for the ICRC in Azerbaijan from 1995 through 1997, moving in that capacity to Uzbekistan where he worked from 1997 to 1999. He subsequently worked as a Protection Coordinator for the ICRC in a variety of contexts, including Nepal (2000 – 2002), Rwanda (2003 – 2004) and Myanmar (2005 – 2006). From 2002 – 2003 he served as the Deputy Head of the ICRC Regional Delegation for Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean. Pierre Dorbes was Head of the ICRC Sub-Delegation in Bucaramanga, Northeastern Colombia, from 2006 – 2008, and served as the Deputy Head of the ICRC Delegation in Israel & the Occupied Territories from 2008 to 2010. From August 2010 to April 2013, he has been the Delegate in charge of humanitarian coordination issues at the ICRC Delegation to the United Nations in New York. As from June 2013, Pierre Dorbes was assigned at ICRC Headquarters in Geneva as Deputy Regional Director for the Near and Middle East until March 2016. He is now joining the ICRC Regional Delegation for East Asia, as Head of Delegation.
Before joining the ICRC, Pierre was Project Coordinator for an NGO in Bosnia Herzegovina from 1993 – 1995, after time spent as a Lecturer of International Relations at the French Military Academy of St Cyr Coëtquidan from 1991 to 1992. David Harmon is the Vice – President for Global Public Affairs at Huawei Technologies. He has been based at the company’s headquarters in Shenzhen in China since November 2014. David is responsible for putting in place strategies within the ICT and digital agenda policy areas that
enhance relations between Huawei Technologies and governments around the world. He is a regular speaker at conferences around the world on issues related to the best global practices in the field of the governance of the ICT sector and on future ICT trends.
Between 2010 – 2014, he worked in Brussels as a member of the cabinet of the European Commissioner for research, innovation and science. In 1990s and 2000s, he was deputy editor-in-chief of International Business Daily, Economic and Commercial Counselor at Chinese Consulates General in San Francisco and New York.
He was invited to WEF Davos Annual Meeting in Jan-Feb. 1996 as the only Chinese media leader and table discussion leader. During his service in the US, he was awarded accreditation by Mayor of San Francisco and Mayor of Cleveland for his contribution to China-US business, and life achievement award by China Sci-Tech Association in America. He has also given speeches in over 60 Chinese cities and over 20 cities in Europe, North America and Asia on hot issues covering global, regional economy and China’s bilateral/multilateral trade relations and policies. He also worked during 2009-2016 as vice chairman of Global Alliance of SMEs.
He is the author of <Chamber of Commerce>, < Across the Pacific>, <Succeed in America> , <New Mediocre, New Contemplation>, and over 300 articles.

Jorge Heine is the Ambassador of Chile to the People’s Republic of China. He was previously CIGI Professor of Global Governance at the Balsillie School of International Affairs, Professor of Political Science at Wilfrid Laurier University and a non-resident Wilson Center Global Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington D.C. From 2007 to 2014 he was a Distinguished Fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI).
From 2006 to 2009 he served as Vice-President of the International Political Science Association (IPSA), whose XXI World Congress of Political Science, the largest ever, with 2450 participants from 75 countries, was held in his native Santiago in July 2009.Given the success of the Santiago Congress, IPSA changed the frequency of World Congresses from the three-year cycles established since 1948, to two-year ones.
He was previously Ambassador of Chile to India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka (2003-2007). During his tenure the first presidential visit from Chile to India took place, a bilateral trade agreement was signed and Chilean exports grew tenfold, to US$ 2.2 billion.
He also served as the Minister of National Assets of Chile (1999). Prior to that he served as Ambassador of Chile to South Africa (1994-1999), cross-accredited to Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland and Zimbabwe. He was the first Ambassador to present credentials to President Nelson Mandela and collaborated with him and with Archbishop Desmond Tutu in the establishment of South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission. During his tenure, South African mining company Anglo American launched the US$ 1.7 billion mining project Doña Inés de Collahuasi in Northern Chile, at the time Chile’s largest FDI project ever. In 1997 and 1998 he was listed among the 100 most influential personalities in South Africa by Johannesburg’s leading newspaper, The Star.
He has also served as Deputy Minister of Defence, Chilean Air Force (1993-1994). He has taught at the War Academy of the Chilean Army as well as at Chile’s Diplomatic Academy, and has lectured repeatedly at India’s National Defence College in New Delhi and at the U.S. Foreign Service Institute in Washington D.C. Other positions include: Associate Director of the EU-funded Institute for European-Latin American Relations (IRELA) in Madrid (1989); Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez (1986-1991); Director of the Caribbean Institute and Study Centre for Latin America (CISCLA) at Inter American University of Puerto Rico (1982-1986); and Research Associate (deputy director), Latin American Program, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington DC (1980-1982).
Dr Heine has lectured at universities throughout the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australasia. He has been a Visiting Fellow at St. Antony’s College, Oxford (1984), a Guggenheim Fellow (1990), the Oliver Tambo Lecturer at Delhi University (2005), and a Public Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington DC in 2011. He was a Visiting Professor of Political Science at the University of Konstanz in Germany in 2012 and the Pablo Neruda Visiting Professor of Latin American Studies at the University of Paris in 2012-2013. In 2013-2014, he was a United Nations Research Fellow at the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile.
He has been a consultant to the United Nations, the Ford Foundation, the Canadian Foreign Ministry, the Trinidad& Tobago MEA, Oxford Analytica and Frost&Sullivan. Nicholas is the Chair of the British Chamber of Commerce in China, a position he has held since 1st June 2017. The Chamber is a membership organisation for British business focused on boosting UK-China trade and investment by providing intelligence, advice, and networking opportunities for members, helping their businesses grow in one of the world’s fastest growing markets.
His other role is leading Knight Frank’s research platform across the Asia-Pacific region. Knight Frank is one of the world’s leading global property consultancies and his responsibilities include co-ordinating research teams, tracking market performance and producing market commentary and reports. His special areas of interest within the field include government policy and intervention, cycle analysis, and intra-regional capital flows.
Nicholas has a large amount of international experience, dealing with a wide range of research and consultancy projects in the UK, mainland Europe, and throughout Asia-Pacific. He has lived and worked in the UK, France, Vietnam and China.
Educated at the London School of Economics (LSE), with a BSc in Economics, Nicholas went on to study for a Masters (MA) in Town and Country Planning from the University of Sheffield and a postgraduate diploma (PGDip) in Surveying from the University of Reading. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS).

Dr. HUO JIANGUO, born in 1954, is the deputy chairman of CWTO association, the Ex-President of Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation (CAITEC), Senior Research Fellow and Ph.D supervisor of University of International Business and Economies. He got the Ph.D in economics in Nan Kai University in 2003.
Dr. HUO JIANGUO has been working in different fields and been designated as different positons including Deputy DGs of Department of Foreign Economy and Trade at the State Economic and Trade Commission, and Department of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Commerce as well as President of China Chamber of Commerce of Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce & Animal By-Products.
Dr. HUO has been devoted to trade administration and foreign economy and trade policy research, such as Chief coordinator for policy-making on the Chinese enterprises` participations in APEC activities and ABAC dialogues in APEC; Team member for negotiations on China’s WTO accession, Chief coordinator for China’s tariff reduction on industrial goods and industrial policy adjustments, China`s fiscal and taxation system reforms, policy-making of foreign trade and foreign exchange system reforms, being responsible for analyzing the risks Chinese enterprises might face and organizing the industrial sectors to deal with the challenges; He has been awarded the prize by the Ministry of Commerce for his outstanding contribution, including putting up first proposal for achieving trade balance through voluntary import expansion by setting up a trade balance fund. Dr. HUO has been devoted to improving CAITEC research and its influence by organizing discussions on foreign economy and trade, and undertaking some important research projects, participating in the study of Prospects of US-China Economic Cooperation in the Next Decade co-organized by China-United States Exchange Foundation, China Center for International Economic Exchanges and the Ministry of Commerce of China. His research findings are published through various formats and on various media.

Kenneth Jarrett

President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai since September 2013. Prior to that he was the Greater China Chairman for APCO Worldwide, a Washington-based public affairs consultancy from 2008 to 2013, and before that a U.S. diplomat from 1982 to 2008. During his 26-year diplomatic career, his postings included Consul General in Shanghai, Deputy Consul General in Hong Kong, and Director of Asian Affairs at the White House National Security Council. He also served in Beijing, Chengdu, Singapore, and had several assignments in Washington, DC. Mr. Jarrett has degrees from Cornell University, Yale University and the National War College.

Mr. Jiang Shan joined the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Economic and Trade(later the Ministry of Commerce) in 1987, and served in the Department of American and Oceanian Affairs. He held successively the positions of Deputy Director, Director, Deputy Director-General and Director-General in the Department. He was responsible for making and implementing economic and trade development strategy and bilateral policies between China and countries in the region and handled important trade and investmentissues with these countries.He was heavily involved in the making and supervision of laws and regulations, economic and trade policies regarding China’s import and export, inbound and outbound investment, trade remedies as well. He helped foreign transnationals invest in China and Chinese enterprises to do M&A overseas, providing them with pertinent and penetrating advices, seeking solutions to their problems and disputes.
Mr. Jiang Shan was posted twice at the Chinese Embassy in Canada, from 1993 to 1995 (first secretary, Economic and Commercial), 2007 to 2013 (Minister Counsellor,Economic and Commercial). He recently retired from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce. He has traveled extensively and currently resides in Beijing with his wife.

He is now Vice President of Sanpower Group responsible for external collaboration, government relations and international affairs.Previously, he took charge of capital planning for overseas listcos, financial investment, M&A financing.
Jeffrey has been actively engaged in equity investment, capital market strategies,assets operations, public company compliance, corporate governance, investor relations and M&A. He has proactively initiated a number of M&A funds areas of health-care, consumption and real estates. Additionally, he participated in a number of venture capital funds, such as Zhuiyuan Ventures LLP and F50 VenturesFund.

Since October 2012, he has been responsible for the activities of Rödl & Partner in the Asian countries China, Taiwan, Hong Kong (SAR), South Korea and Japan. He spends about half of his time in Asia, mainly in China.
Thilo Ketterer has many years of experience in assisting well-known European – often owner-managed – companies in their business expansion to and within China. In addition, he advises Chinese investors on their market entry in Germany and Europe.
His consulting expertise ranges from transaction advisory, tax structuring and tax declaration to advice on business and financial issues.
Mr. Ketterer is involved in various ThinkTanks, which deal with German-Chinese cooperation in the fields of一带一路(belt and road initiative), healthcare, made in China 2025/industry 4.0, smart city, e-mobility and renewable energies.
Another main focus of his work is the accounting and auditing according to German, international as well as Chinese principles.

Prior to that, Albert worked in investment management advising expatriate clients in China on investment opportunities in mutual funds off-shore.
Albert is a Belgian citizen from Russian origin who lives in China for over three years. From 2013 to 2017, he was Vice President of TOTAL China responsible for government affairs and communication. Before that, he spent 18 years in senior business management positions at leading multinational companies: Before TOTAL, he was General Manager of Construction Industry and Director of Industry Affairs at BASF. Right prior to that, he was Chief Representative/Country Manager China at Hochtief. Yan started his career in 1987 as a junior diplomat and chief interpreter for German-speaking countries in China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Yan LENG studied since 1981 in Germany on Chinese government scholarship and graduated in 1987 with a Master degree of Karls-Ruprecht University of Heidelberg. In 2003, he earned his MBA degree from China-Europe International Business School (CEIBS).

Li Baiqing, Male, the Han nationality, was born in 1962, on-job postgraduates, EMBA and the doctorate of ecological tourism holders, with current posts of initiator, legal representative and executive director of CGE Peace Development Foundation, and also the vice-chairman of World Hotel Association.
In September 1979, he started to study at the Japanese Department of Dalian University of Foreign Languages as an undergraduate student. Since August 1983, he worked as a interpreter for Hubei Steel Ball Factory Institute, Yichang Foreign Economic and Trade Commission, and Yichang Garment Import & Export Company.
 As the policy of reform and opening-up deepened in 1988, he moved to Hainan, where he successively held the posts of the Director of Haikou Foreign Affair Communication Center, the Deputy Director of Qiongshan Foreign Affairs Office, the Deputy Director General of Qiongshan Finance and Taxation Bureau, and the Manager of Qiongshan Major Projects Construction and Investment Company.
Ever since 1998, he has been working in Sanya, the famous tourist city, and the posts he served included the Vice Chairman of Municipal Committee of CPPCC, the Deputy Mayor of Municipal Government, the Deputy Director of the Foreign Trade Office of Commerce Department, the National Delegate of Jiusan Society, the CPPCC member of Hainan, the Vice Chairman of Hainan Jiusan Society. Over the past years, he has accumulated rich experiences of administrative management in foreign investments, foreign economies, foreign trades, foreign affairs, tourism, cultures, sports, commerce, state-owned assets and science & technologies, etc. 
During his tenure in Sanya, he had been committed to the tourist city management, resources development, culture improvement, marketing promotion, and brand shaping, actively transforming the tourism culture of Sanya into the cultural tourism. In 2008, Sanya successfully became one of the very first Chinese cities to feature the torch delay of Beijing Olympic Games through the team efforts led by him. As the supervisor of government industries, he was responsible for the organization and implementation of over a hundred of national and international cultural events, including the Finals of Miss World, the Volvo Ocean Race and the Hainan International Road Cycling Race, which greatly enriched the Sanya’s connotations and internationalization.
 He took part in many on-the-job courses, including the master program of international trade at the School of Graduates of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the doctoral program of ecological tourism at Central South University of Forestry And Technology, and the master of business administration of EMBA of Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business. He obtained EMBA and the doctorate of ecological tourism.
In the end of 2016, he completed the early retirement to mark an end of 37 years of service for the government, and ever since then he has been committed to the social public welfare and the world peace and development. Therefore, he worked along with other public personages to establish the Hainan CGE Peace Development Foundation that follows the new trends and opportunities regarding FTAAP, overseas public security, low-carbon environment, international education, financial investment, and health regimen, etc. The foundation has been greatly contributing to the peace, development, and cooperation around the world.
Under his guidance, the “borderless think tank” of the foundation has begun to take shape. By working with other departments and organizations, he hosted a series of high-end international forums (The International Forum on the construction of FTAAP and the New Exploration of Global Economic Governance) and participated in the REITs projects of the Development Research Center of the State Council. In addition, he established in-depth partnerships with many organizations such as Joint International Tourism College of Hainan University and ASU Arizona State University, and CCG (global think tank), making great contributions to the development of relevant fields and the social progress.

Mr. Long Yongtu was Secretary-General of Boao Forum for Asia elected by its Board of Directors on January 21, 2003.
Mr. Long received his BA Degree of British and American Literature in the Guizhou University in 1965 and had his post graduate study in economics at the London School of Economics from 1973 to 1974. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) in 1965 and served as a diplomat in the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations in New York from 1978 to 1980. From 1980 to 1986, he worked in the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), first in New York headquarters and then in Democratic People’s Republic of Korea as the Deputy Resident Representative of the UNDP Office.
After 8 years of diplomatic service abroad from 1978 to 1986, Mr. Long returned to China in 1986 and became Deputy Director-general of China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges (CICETE). In January 1992, Mr. Long was appointed Director-general of Department of International Relations, MOFTEC, and Assistant Minister of the Ministry in April 1994. In February 1997, he was appointed Vice Minister and the Chief Representative for Trade Negotiations of MOFTEC.
As the Chief Negotiator for China’s resumption of GATT contracting party status and its accession to the World Trade Organization, Mr. Long dedicated over 10 years for this prolonged trade negotiation to bring China into the global trading system.
Apart from trade negotiations, Mr. Long was also in charge of the multilateral economic and trade affairs between China and the United Nations development agencies. He was fully involved in APEC affairs and attended the APEC meetings of trade ministers each year during the years from 1992 to 2001.
Mr. Long has been active in promoting regional economic cooperation. He was actively involved in creating the Regional Economic Development Cooperation Committee of the Tumen River Area in Northeast Asia and chaired the Committee’s first ministerial meeting in Beijing in April 1996.
Apart from his official duties, Mr. Long was the Dean of School of International Relations and Public Affairs, Fudan University. He is visiting professor of many renowned Chinese Academic Institiutions, including the Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University, Nankai University, Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, etc. He’s also the board member of Shantou University. In July, 2006, Mr. Long was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Science (Economics) by London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
Mr. Long received a special award by the United Nations Secretary General Mr. Kofi Annan, Oct.2004, for his outstanding contribution to the UN partnership in China and in promoting the values of the UN. And on August 8,2005, His Majesty King Albert II of the Belgium decreed to award the Insignia of Officer in the Order of Leopold to Mr. Long for his outstanding contributions to the facilitation of regional cooperation in Asia and the promotion of Sino-European and Sino-Belgian economical and trade relations.
