Feeding a population of 1.4 billion with affordable and safe food and continuously support the demand for better food quality and variety is a major challenge to agriculture and every step of the supply chain. China has made significant accomplishments on that front. CIties are complex systems containing multiple layers of infrastructure as well as dynamic flows of energy and people. Cities are becoming smarter and more resilient due to the nimble input streams and greater connectivity of residents. Simultaneously, the constant demand for renewal and reshape of urban environments open up vast space for design and technology interventions at multiple scales. This panel examines urbanization issues through the lens of future urban environment while considering the physical built environment as a platform for the application of new technology and design excellence. Panelists share their visions for future urban living scenarios in the face of new technologies to support the needs of various user groups.

Energy and environmental issues are challenges China and many other regions in the world face at the same time, and are or could become severe bottleneck for the sustainable development of economies and societies. This topic is also among the prioritized themes of the Cornell China Center. This panel invites the Pls of three winning projects of the 2019 Inaugural "Cornell China Innovation Grants" that are focusing on energy and environmental quality, as well as expert who has long-term experience in facilitating the US-China collaboration on this topic, to present a dialogue for the audience on topics of research framework and multi-system interactions, the use of data for policy making and management support, and education models and innovation.
