Martha E. Pollack is the fourteenth president of Cornell University and professor of computer science, information science, and linguistics.
She is committed to building upon Cornell’s academic distinction and unique strengths as an Ivy League and land-grant university; investing in new, evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning; building an open, inclusive community whose members communicate effectively across difference; cultivating productive and meaningful synergies across disciplines; and capitalizing on the complementary strengths of Cornell’s urban and rural identities.
She took office in 2017, having previously served as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Michigan.
Michael I. Kotlikoff, professor of molecular physiology, became the 16th provost of Cornell University in 2015. As the university’s chief academic officer, chief budgeting officer, and first deputy officer to the president, he works to enhance the university’s excellence in teaching, scholarship, and outreach. His signature initiative, Radical Collaborations, recruits faculty and supports infrastructure in seven key multidisciplinary areas.
Kotlikoff previously served as the Austin O. Hooey Dean of Veterinary Medicine (2007–2015) and, before that, as founding chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and chair of the Mammalian Genomics Life Science Initiative.
As provost, Kotlikoff continues to maintain his laboratory, which has been continually funded by the NIH for over 30 years and is internationally recognized in the area of cardiovascular biology.
Kotlikoff received his B.A. (literature) and V.M.D. degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and his Ph.D. in physiology from the University of California, Davis.
Robert S. Harrison was the Chief Executive Officer of the Clinton Global Initiative from 2007 to 2017. Previously, he was the Executive Director of the Clinton Foundation’s childhood obesity initiative. Before joining the Clinton Foundation, Harrison spent over 20 years on Wall Street as an investment banker and attorney. He joined Goldman Sachs in 1987, where he became a partner in the firm’s investment banking division and global co-head of its Communications, Media, and Entertainment group. From 1981 to 1987, Harrison practiced corporate law in the New York and Paris offices of Davis, Polk and Wardwell. Harrison is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Cornell University, a Director of the Clinton Foundation and the Association of American Rhodes Scholars, Chairman Emeritus of the Board of the Henry Street Settlement, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He received a B.A. in government from Cornell University, an M.A. in politics, philosophy, and economics from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar, and a J.D. from Yale Law School.
Jeffrey Lehman is the Vice Chancellor of NYU Shanghai, where he oversees all academic and administrative operations. Lehman is an internationally acclaimed leader in higher education, having served as dean of the University of Michigan Law School, the eleventh president of Cornell University, and the founding dean of the Peking University School of Transnational Law.
Prior to joining the University of Michigan Law School, Lehman served as law clerk to Frank M. Coffin, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and Associate Justice John Paul Stevens of the United States Supreme Court. He then spent four years at Caplin & Drysdale, a Washington, D.C. law firm. Throughout his professional and academic career, Lehman has volunteered his time and energy to nonprofit organizations that share his commitments in the fields of higher education, law, and technology.
Vice Chancellor Lehman received an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Cornell University, an M.P.P. from the University of Michigan, and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School. He is a multi-award winner for his work both in the US and abroad, including the Friendship Award, which is China’s highest honor for “foreign experts who have made outstanding contributions to the country’s economic and social progress.” In 2018, Lehman was named one of the 40 most influential foreign experts in China during the four decades since the country began its process of 'reform and opening up’.
Jia “Jonathan” ZHU is the managing director of Bain Capital Asia, LLC, a position he has held since 2006. He has led many of Bain Capital’s investments in Asia, particularly in China, and serves on the boards of a number of listed companies, including Sunac (China) Limited, ClearMedia Limited, and Greatview Aseptic Packaging, all of which are listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, as well as Hugel, Inc., listed on KOSDAQ. Prior to joining Bain Capital, Mr. Zhu was chief executive officer of Morgan Stanley China. Before joining Morgan Stanley, Mr. Zhu was an attorney with Shearman & Sterling in New York from 1992 to 1994.
Though he originally came to Cornell to pursue a Ph.D. in English Literature, his interests changed and he moved to Cornell Law School where he earned his J.D. Mr. Zhu also holds a B.A. from Zhengzhou University and an MA from Nanjing University. He is a Member of the Board of Trustees at Cornell, serves on the Cornell Law School Advisory Council, and is a former member of Cornell University Council. Mr. Zhu is also a board member of Nanjing University and, until recently, the Hong Kong Ballet Board of Trustees.
Dr. Ying Hua is the Director of the Cornell China Center, Associate Professor of Design and Environmental Analysis in the College of Human Ecology, and is in the Graduate Field of Real Estate at Cornell University. Under her leadership, the Cornell China Center is serving as a bridge to facilitate world-class research and education collaboration across diverse communities between Cornell and China and as a dynamic hub to bring great minds together to foster innovative research to address critical challenges facing China and the world, and contribute to the education of future leaders with a global scope. From a background of architecture and behavior sciences, Dr. Hua’s work focuses on building performance and both the methodology development and empirical studies of the impact of built environments on user behavior and organizational outcomes. The International Workplace Studies Program that she leads at Cornell has conducted a large volume of work on performance evaluation of workplace, learning environments and healthcare settings, workplace strategy, spatial quality diagnosis and reengineering, design and investment decision support, and sustainable buildings, for achieving environmental quality, occupant satisfaction and health, as well as integrated environmental, economic, and social goals.
Through her active involvement in multiple programs both at Cornell and internationally as well as her own teaching at Cornell, Dr. Hua has been experimenting ways for students to learn in cross-disciplinary and cross-culture settings in the new and evolving context for higher education.。

Dr. Yu has received numerous international awards including: the 2002 Franz Edelman Management Science Achievement Award from INFORMS, the 2002 IIE Transaction Award for Best Application Paper, the 2003 Outstanding IIE Publication Award from the Institute of Industrial Engineers, the 2012 Martin K. Starr Excellence in Production and Operations Management Practice Award from POMS. Dr. Yu has published over 80 journal articles, 6 books, and he holds 3 US patents.
Dr. Yu is the founder and CEO of CALEB Technologies Corporation in 1995 in the US, the company was later acquired by Accenture.
As vice provost for international affairs, Wolford focuses on strengthening Cornell University’s many global connections and interdisciplinary initiatives, including the Global Grand Challenge on Migrations. Wolford is Robert A. and Ruth E. Polson Professor of Global Development in the Department of Development Sociology in Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Her research includes work on international development, land use and distribution, social mobilization, agrarian societies and critical ethnography. She spent 2016-2017 as a Fulbright scholar in Mozambique and Portugal, and she is currently working on a book on the politics of inequality and rural development in Brazil and Mozambique. At Cornell since 2010, Wolford has served as the faculty director for economic development at the David R. Atkinson Center for Sustainable Development, where she co-led CARE-Cornell and Oxfam-Cornell collaborations. She was co-leader of a three-year theme project on contested global landscapes at Cornell’s Institute for the Social Sciences. Wolford received her bachelor of arts in economics and international development from McGill University (1994) and her PhD (2001) in geography from the University of California, Berkeley. Before joining Cornell, she was a faculty member in geography at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (2001-2010) and a postdoctoral fellow at Yale University (2004-2005).
Mustafa K. Abadan is Design partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM). With a focus on integrating architecture, engineering, and sustainable strategies, he approaches urban design projects as an opportunity to explore ideas of physical and social context, spatial experience, and clarity of function. Abadan has extensive experience designing complex urban projects that involve intricate site planning and multiple uses, and which incorporate thriving civic spaces. In addition to large scale urban design projects, his portfolio also encompasses a wide range of mixed-use, corporate, civic, and institutional buildings. Some of his award-winning projects include Canary Wharf in London, Time Warner Center in New York, Tokyo Midtown in Tokyo, Tanjong Pagar Centre in Singapore and Esentai Park in Almaty.
A Fellow of the AIA, Abadan received Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture in Urban Design degrees from Cornell University.
John Albertson is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University. After receiving his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering in 1985 he worked for 6 years in the electric power industry, during which time he earned an MBA (Finance) and his Professional Engineers license (CT). In 1991 he left industry to return to academia, earning a Masters from Yale University in 1993 and a Ph.D. from the University of California Davis in 1996. Albertson joined the Cornell faculty in July of 2015 from Duke University where he was department chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Albertson's research is directed toward the development of a comprehensive understanding of the exchange rates of mass, energy, and momentum between the land and atmosphere. Applications of his work range from climate impacts on hydrology to methane emissions in oil and gas operations. His water and climate work is currently focused on the Tibetan Plateau. His methane emissions work was recently profiled in an interview on the Bloomberg News Network and has led to the creation of a start-up company focused on methane sensing and fugitive emission reduction in oil and gas operations.
Ya-Ru Chen holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Columbia University and is Nicholas H. Noyes Professor of Management and Academic Dean for China Initiatives at SC Johnson College of Business of Cornell University. Professor Chen is well known for her research regarding cross-cultural management and negotiation. Professor Chen’s recent work examines power and status dynamics in organizations across cultures. Her publications appear in the leading academic journals and have received multiple research awards. She also has received teaching Awards at the Johnson School in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
David Erickson is the SC Thomas Sze Director and Sibley College Professor in the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell University. He is also a joint Professor within the Division of Nutritional Sciences. His research focuses on: mobile and global health technology, medical diagnostics, microfluidics, photonics, and nanotechnology. Prior to joining the faculty, he was a postdoctoral scholar at the California Institute of Technology and he received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Toronto. Research in the Erickson lab is primarily funded through grants from the NSF, NIH, ARPA-E, ONR, DOE, DOD, Nutrition International, and Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN). Prof. Erickson has helped to found numerous start-up companies commercializing: high-throughput pharmaceutical instrumentation, biomedical diagnostics, and energy technologies including Halo Labs, VitaScan and Dimensional Energy. Dr. Erickson has received the DARPA-MTO Young Faculty Award, the NSF CAREER Award, the Department of Energy Early Career Award, among others. In 2011 he was awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientist and Engineers (PECASE). For his efforts in co-founding the field of optofluidics, Erickson has been named a fellow of the Optical Society of America and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Marianne E Krasny is professor of Natural Resources and Director of the Civic Ecology Lab at Cornell University. Her recent books include Civic Ecology (with K Tidball), Urban Environmental Education Review (with A Russ), Communicating Climate Change: A Guide for Educators (with A Armstrong and J Schuldt), and Grassroots to Global. She conducts environmental education online courses for international audiences and is an International Fellow of the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry.
Dr. Krasny’s work in China includes workshops and presentations for education and sustainability professionals sponsored by TNC, China Ministry of Environmental Protection, World Wildlife Fund, Chinese Academy of Sciences at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanic Garden, and Tsinghua, Zhejiang, and Beijing Normal universities. Together with Yue Li (Cornell PhD 2016), she teaches online courses for Chinese audiences with funding from Alibaba Foundation and is developing an E-STEM online course in collaboration with TNC-China and Paradise Foundation.
With over 35 years of design and management experience, Jill Lerner has led the design of numerous award-winning academic and institutional research facilities projects for public and private clients throughout the United States. As a Principal at KPF, she is responsible for all aspects of project management and design, and is the primary client contact during all phases—from initial programming and conceptual design through construction and project close-out.
Academic facilities projects completed under Jill’s direction include the Chapman Graduate School of Business at Florida International University, Huntsman Hall at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, and a new multi-use facility for New York University’s School of Law. Of note, she oversaw the KPF design teams responsible for the new Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, and the Newman Vertical Campus mixed-use academic complex at City University of New York’s Baruch College.
Jill’s research and institutional work includes the new Advanced Science Research Center at the Graduate Center, CUNY; a science research center at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas; and the expansion of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, ranked as the number one children’s hospital in the United States by U.S. News and World Report.
Jill has also led master planning efforts for several academic and research facilities, including the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business, the Walter B. Ford College for Creative Studies, and the Semel Institute and Center for Health Sciences at the University of California-Los Angeles.
An active member of the architectural community, Jill was President of the AIA NY Chapter in 2013, and is currently a Board Member of the Urban Green, the New York City arm of the USGBC and is on the External Advisory Board of the Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future. An active member of her alma mater, Cornell University, Jill was the only architect on the Cornell University Board of Trustees (2004-2009), is past Chair of the University’s College of Architecture, Art and Planning Alumni Advisory Council and is an active member of the President’s Council of Cornell Women. She has also taught Professional Practice to architecture students in Cornell’s New York City program.

Before joining Tencent, Jordan was the consulting managing principal in IQVIA. He led the successful delivery of many strategy development and operation excellence projects for an extensive coverage of multinational pharmaceutical companies. He also led several policy study and planning projects for China government, where he offered insightful advice and suggestions.
Jordan completed his undergraduate study from the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in Chemical and Biomolecular engineering, with a minor in nanotechnology.
Yuanli Liu, professor of health policy and management and Dean, School of Public Health, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College, President of Chinese Aging Well Association. Dr. Liu has worked at Harvard School of Public Health from 1993 to 2013, first as a research fellow and then as a faculty member. He also served as the founding director of the HSPH China Initiative from 2005 to 2015. Serving on the State Council Advisory Committee on Health System Reforms, Dr. Liu has been closely involved in China’s series of health policy initiatives, including the Healthy China 2030 Plan.
Dr. Dan Luo is currently Professor in the Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University. Dr. Luo obtained his B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Science and Technology of China and his Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from The Ohio State University in 1997. He carried out his postdoctoral training in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Cornell under Prof. Mark Saltzman. Dr. Luo joined Cornell faculty in 2001 and was promoted to full professorship in 2011. He is a recipient of the National Science Foundation’s CAREER Award, the Cornell Provost’s Award for Distinguished Scholarship, the SUNY (New York State) Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities, the Journal of Materials Chemistry Editorial Board Award, New York State Faculty Development Award (“Distinguished Professor”), College Award for Outstanding Accomplishments in Basic Research, and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Point-of-Care Diagnostics Grand Challenge Award. He was also selected four times by top undergraduate students as a Cornell outstanding educator. Dr. Luo has delivered more than 250 plenary or invited talks. He was elected as a College Fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) in 2013.
Howard Milstein leads a family that has been prominent in business and philanthropy for four generations. Central to his philanthropic and civic efforts are the objectives of improving global health, national security, education and economic prosperity. In the field of medical research and healthcare, Howard serves as Chairman of the Board of American Skin Association and Member of the Board of the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation. In 2011, the Milstein Medical Asian American Partnership Foundation (MMAAP Foundation) was created to contribute to world health by developing mutually beneficial partnerships between the United States, China, and greater Asia. The Foundation funds fellowship and project awards that bring together top medical talent from leading Chinese medical institutions with leading American medical research institutions to make progress in several fields, including geriatrics, dermatology, translational medicine, reproductive medicine, and stem cell research and regenerative medicine. In October 2016, the China Association for International Exchange of Personnel presented Howard with the prestigious Marco Polo Award, the highest honor given to a non-Chinese citizen. Howard earned a B.A. in Economics from Cornell University summa cum laude and JD and MBA degrees from Harvard University.
Dr. Kevin Mo is the Managing Director of the Paulson Institute Representative Office, in charge of climate and sustainable urbanization. He is also executive director of University of Chicago’s Energy Policy Research Institute in China. He has more than 25 years of experience in strategizing and implementing climate and energy policies in both the U.S. and China. He is a frequent speaker on energy policies and sustainable development at international conferences and workshops. Prior to joining the Paulson Institute, Dr. Mo was the director of Energy Foundation’s China Buildings Program, a project director at Natural Resources Defense Council, a research engineer at Maryland-based NAHB Research Center and a lecturer at Tsinghua University.
Dr. Mo is a board director of World Green Building Council, an advisor to the U.S. team in the US-China Clean Energy Research Center’s Building Energy Efficiency Consortium. He was elected to Top 10 Green Motivators in 2017 by China Real Estate News. He won the EEBA 25th Anniversary Legacy Award in 2007 by managing a U.S. DOE’s energy efficiency award program. At Tsinghua University, he won the 2nd Science and Technology Progress Award from China’s Ministry of Culture in 1995.
He received his Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University, a master’s degree from Tsinghua University and a bachelor’s degree from Zhejiang University.
Kirstin Petersen is an Assistant Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University. Her lab, the Collective Embodied Intelligence Lab, focuses on design and coordination of large robot collectives able to achieve complex behaviors beyond the reach of an individual, and corresponding studies on how social insects do so in nature. Major research topics include swarm intelligence, embodied intelligence, soft robotics, and bio-hybrid systems towards applications in autonomous construction, human-swarm interaction, and digital agriculture. Petersen completed a M.Sc. in modern artificial intelligence with the University of Southern Denmark, a Ph.D. with the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University, and a postdoc at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems. Her work was nominated among the top 10 scientific breakthroughs of 2014 by Science, and she was named one of Robohub’s 25 women in robotics in 2018.
Dr. Stewart is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at NYPH/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and Vice Dean at Weill Cornell. He received a B.E. degree summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University, and an M.D. from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed residency training at Baylor College of Medicine, and received his M.P.H. degree from the University of Texas School of Public Health, Houston. Dr. Stewart joined the Otolaryngology faculty at Baylor after residency training, where he served as Chief of Service at Ben Taub General Hospital, and Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs for the College.
Dr. Stewart is the author of 2 textbooks, and more than 30 book chapters and 120 peer-reviewed publications. He is the former Editor-in-Chief of The Laryngoscope and a past-President of the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery. He currently is a member of the ACGME Residency Review Committee for Otolaryngology from 2016-22.

Prof. SUN Qixin is the President of China Agricultural University(CAU), and the member of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress.
Besides his duty as President at CAU, he has actively served as the Chief Scientist of the Project named Basic Molecular Biology of Major Crop Heterosis and Its Utilization, which is a part in the National Plan of Key Fundamental Research (as known as 973 Plan). Randy Liushuo Wan graduated Magna cum laude from Cornell University in 2012 and is currently a serial entrepreneur. He is the founder and CEO of inDeco and Woo space.
Randy established Woo space in 2015, which raised close to 100 million RMB by China Equity Group ,Matrix Partners China and other first-tier venture capital firms and successfully exited the company in 2018.
In 2016, Randy also started inDeco which has obtained over 100 million RMB of investment from ZhenFund ,Source Code Capital and other first-tier venture capital firms, raising the largest amount of financing for a tech commercial space decoration firm. It has served customers more than 1000+, including Tencent, Meituan and ByteDance.
Randy has won many awards from the Beijing News and other well-known media, and received Forbes China's 30 under 30 in 2018.
Martin received a veterinary degree and a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, and a Ph.D. in Food Science from Cornell, where he currently is the Gellert Family Professor of Food Safety. His research interests focus on farm-to-table microbial food quality and food safety and the application of molecular tools to study the transmission of foodborne pathogens and spoilage organisms. His team has published > 350 peer reviewed publications, which have been cited >10,000 times. He has taught a number of food safety workshops in China and serves as lead for a current food safety related project in China that is funded by the Walmart Foundation. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), the American Academy of Microbiology (AAM), and the International Academy of Food Science and Technology.
Dr. Zhinong Yan is the Executive Director of the Walmart Food Safety Collaboration Center (WFSCC). He leads a team that promotes the development of food safety in China through stakeholder collaboration in the three areas of food safety innovation, education and policy support.
Dr. Yan has over 30 years of academic and industry experience in microbiology and food safety. His experience spans the entire food supply chain from farm to table. His expertise includes analysis and overall solution against the occurrence, contamination, traceability and control of foodborne risk factors during the stages of production, processing, retail and catering for grain, meat, fruits, vegetables, and snack foods; Dr. Yan has extensive experience in microbiological inspections, analysis, monitoring and control of food processing equipment during production and in the business environment. He has published over 30 research papers and book chapters.
Dr. Yan was previous the Asia-Pacific Food Safety Director for Ecolab. Prior to this he also worked at a food processing equipment firm and a food safety consultancy. He has provided food safety services for over 150 food processing plants in more than 20 countries in North America, South America, Europe and Asia. He has designed and conducted over 200 training sessions on enterprise food hygiene and safety.
Dr. Yan received his BSc. and MSc. in plant pathology from China Agricultural University in 1988 and 1994 respectively, and his PhD from Auburn University in 2000. He completed his postdoctoral research at the University of Georgia, and Michigan State University where he also served as an assistant professor in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition. He was formerly the Vice Chair of the International Association on Food Protection’s (IAFP) Food Hygiene and Sanitation Professional Development Group, as well as the founder and two-time Chairman of the North American Chinese Association for Food Protection. Dr. Yan is currently Vice Chair of the Global Food Safety Initiative’s (GFSI) China Steering Committee, Chairperson for AFP China, Vice President of China Animal Health and Food Safety Alliance, and Expert Advisor of Food Safety Committee of the China Chain-Store & Franchise Association (CCFA) and China Children Food Safety Program of China Children and Teenage Foundation(CCTF).
Max Zhang is a Professor in the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Cornell University. He received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California-Davis. Dr. Zhang’s research areas reside on the nexus of energy and environmental system engineering, and currently focus on data-driven air quality management, IoT-based energy and environmental monitoring, urban green infrastructure designs, renewable energy planning and intelligent building systems. His research efforts have been recognized by a number of local and national awards and have led to major environmental legislations in California and New York. Working with colleagues at Tsinghua University, Prof. Zhang developed the mobile chasing techniques that have been successfully implemented in dozens of Chinese cities collecting emission profiles from on-road vehicles. At Cornell, Prof. Zhang serves on the Faculty Advisory Council and the Public Engagement Council, advising Engaged Cornell, a $150 million initiative to establish community engagement and real-world learning experiences as the hallmark of the Cornell educational experience.
