What is Mentor Walks about?
Mentor Walks is a monthly series that connects emerging female leaders with a range of senior women from a diverse professional community. As mentors and mentees walk and talk, they discuss their challenges, successes, aspirations, and lessons learned.
When do the events take place?
These meetings will take place once a month either early on Friday mornings before work or on Saturday mornings. Please keep an eye out for our notices which will confirm the exact time, date and location for each session.
Does Mentor Walks fundraise for charity?
Yes! All funds raised from these activities are donated to Educating Rural Girls of China (ERGC).
Who can be a mentee?
Our mentees tend to be recent graduates or young to mid-range female professionals. That being said, all women are welcome to join the events as a mentee irrespective of age, career or nationality.
How many people usually attend these walks?
This depends on how many mentors attend the event. We recommend mentors to walk with at most six mentees.
Can I help?
Absolutely! Our organizational team would love to hear from anyone who would either like to volunteer for Mentor Walks or participate as a mentor. Please see our contact details below.
What languages does Mentor Walks use?
Since our Mentor Walks community includes several expats, we hold most of our activities in English. That being said, we make sure to also invite mentors who can lead sessions in Mandarin.
Will there be follow-up sessions after the walk?
We do not organize any follow-up sessions, however after the walks mentees and mentors can head together for an informal breakfast or coffee.
Can I ask the mentors to add me on Wechat?
We recommend mentees add mentors on a professional platform like Linkedin.
Please be aware that mentors are not obliged to share their personal contact details including Wechat information with mentees or remain in contact with them. We leave this decision up to the mentors.
How long is the mentorship?
Each Mentor Walk session is only one hour-long. However, if mentees join Mentor Walks every month, they will have the opportunity to walk and talk with several different mentors.
How to make sure the events are effective with so many participants?
We invite senior professionals from a variety of industries, so that way mentees can meet to a mentor from their desired career path.
We recommend mentors to walk with no more than six mentees. We aim to keep each group relatively small, so that it's easier for everyone to hear the conversation. Please note that this is not a one-on-one mentoring session, so be aware that other mentees in your group will want to ask the mentor questions too.
Can I participate online?
Unfortunately, it is not possible for participants to join the sessions virtually. Mentor Walks is an exclusively in-person event.
