Read Bio Lily Lee Chen In 1982, Ms. Chen was elected to the Monterey Park City council by the largest number of votes of any candidate in the city’s history. In 1984, she became the first Chinese-American female mayor in the history of the United States, earning her the prestigious All American City Award in 1984. Ms. Chen earned her bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s in social work from the University of Washington, Seattle. Ms. Chen began her professional career in 1964, working for the Los Angeles County where she directed operations, program, and grants management for numerous County programs. She has been appointed to the Board of Governors of East West Center, the Advisory Committee on Women in the Services, and the Industry Policy Advisory Committee. Ms. Chen was the Founding President of the Chinese American Political Action Committee and the National President for the National Organization of Chinese American Women.

Chu is currently serving as Professor of Physics, T.L.L Temple Chair of Science, and Executive Director of the Texas Center for Superconductivity at the University of Houston, and as President of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He was born in Hunan, China, and received his B.S. degree from Chen-Kung University in Taiwan. After service with the Nationalist Chinese Air Force, he earned the M.S. degree from Fordham University, Bronx NY, and completed the PH.D degree at the University of California at San Diego, all three degrees being in Physics. Read Bio Henry Tang Henry Tang is a seasoned 30-year investment banking veteran of Wall Street, having participated in and observed the global transformation of the capital markets. As a securities management executive, he has been engaged in global investment and banking activities in Europe, Asia, and the U.S. for several of the largest Wall Street investment banks including Salomon Brothers, Lehman Brothers and Prudential. Prior to his appointment at AAMSF in June 2008, he had been Chairman of the Department of Asian and Ancient Art (2006-2008) and Head of the Department of Asian Art (2003-2006) at The Art Institute of Chicago, Curator of Chinese Art at the Seattle Art Museum (1996-2003), and Research Fellow at the Department of Asian Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (1995-1996). He is well published, particularly on ancient Chinese bronzes and archaeology. His other publications cover diverse areas of Chinese art and museum practice, and he lectures extensively on Asian art, including contemporary art. Read Bio Dali Yang Dali L. Yang is Professor of Political Science and founding Faculty Director of the University of Chicago Center in Beijing. He previously served as director of the East Asian Institute in Singapore and is former Chairman of the Department of Political Science, former director of the Center for East Asian Studies and of the Committee on International Relations at the University of Chicago. Dr. Yang earned his Ph.D. in political science from Princeton University in 1993, and is the author of numerous books and scholarly articles on the politics and political economy of China. Among Professor Yang’s books are Remaking the Chinese Leviathan: Market Transition and the Politics of Governance in China (Stanford University Press, 2004); Calamity and Reform in China: State, Rural Society and Institutional Change since the Great Leap Famine (Stanford University Press, 1996); Beyond Beijing: Liberalization and the Regions in China (Routledge, 1997). He is also editor or co-editor of several other volumes and the author of many articles. He was a team member and contributor to The United States and Rise of China and India, by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. Professor Yang has served on the editorial boards of leading academic journals, including American Political Science Review, Journal of Contemporary China, and World Politics. Its institutional investor members manage US$12.0 trillion of assets globally. From 1993 to 1999, she was the U.S. Ambassador and Executive Director to the Board of the Asian Development Bank in Manila, the first woman Executive Director appointed by the United States Government to the board of a multilateral financial institution and the first Executive Director appointed by President Clinton and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Mr. Zarit is one of only two serving Foreign Commercial Service officers worldwide to have attained the rank of Career Minister, which earned him the lifetime “Honorable” honorific.
