Zoe Shen
Vice Secretary General at One FoundationZoe SHEN worked at Horizon Research Consultancy Group for over a decade. Horizon is one of China's earliest and most influential think tanks. She honed her leaderships skills at Horizon eventually becoming the youngest Vice President in the organization. Her extensive research experiences in public opinion and social studies have enabled her to serve as a bridge locally between the public and the government in China as well as internationally.
After completing her Hubert Humphrey fellowship in the U.S. in 2011, Zoe came back to China and shifted her career from a social researcher to a leadership role in the philanthropy industry. She led an NGO startup, “Black Apple Youth,” funded by Horizon focusing on youth development. Black Apple Youth’s innovative approach to mobilize the local Chinese youth participation in philanthropy activities swiftly shaped it as a leading brand amongst young professionals and university students.
In 2015, she joined One Foundation as Vice Secretary General with overall responsibility for fund raising.
Sarah Kemp
Minister Counselor Commercial Affairs at US Embassy Beijing, ChinaSarah has been working at the U.S Embassy in Bangkok, Hanoi and Beijing as a Commercial Counselor for over fifteen years. With her experience in China’s market and expertise in communication, Sarah has advocated on behalf of U.S Companies with a variety Chinese government officials to develop public private partnerships in aviation, energy and railroad sectors. She is currently the third most senior official in the Embassy and directs six offices across China with a staff of 150.
Rachel Morarjee

Dr. Amanda Barry
Director of Academics, Faculty and Research at The Beijing Center for Chinese StudiesDr. Amanda Barry is Director of Academics, Faculty and Research at The Beijing Center for Chinese Studies, a research, education and study abroad program at University of International Business and Economics, Beijing. She is responsible for leading and developing the Center’s academic and research staff and programs, with a particular focus on professional and career development for young people. Amanda holds a Ph.D. in Indigenous history from the University of Melbourne (Australia) and has published, presented and taught internationally. Amanda moved to Beijing in 2005 and has worked in business consulting, education, culture and the arts including at the Australian Embassy and Peking University. Amanda is also actively involved in Beijing’s cultural life, regularly performing with the International Festival Chorus Beijing. Amanda speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese and lives in Beijing with her husband and daughter.
Jackie You
Founder of I.E CapitalJackie founded i.e. Capital after serving as a CFO of two NASDAQ-listed technology companies – ChinaCache and China Information Technology. Prior to assuming the CFO role, she was in charge of China investments for JLF Asset Management from May 2007 until May 2008, which was ranked by Barron's among the world's top 30 hedge funds in early 2008.
Hannah Ryder
Diplomat/EconomistHannah Wanjie Ryder (芮 婉 洁) is a diplomat, economist and award-winning writer, who has been leading the United Nations Development Programme’s work with China to help it scale up and improve its cooperation with other developing countries, including in Africa.
She is a Kenyan and British national and has worked in the areas of climate change and development for the past 14 years.
Hannah is a co-author of the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change and she writes a regular blog called "Development Refreshed", for which she won the UK’s 2012 Observer Ethical Award.
She recently featured in the British Embassy in China's "Be Yourself" women's empowerment campaign, and was nominated as 2016 “New African Woman on the Rise”. In 2015 she was listed as one of the UK's 100 most influential black people in the "Black Power List".
During her career, Hannah worked on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and helped to design Phase I and II of Europe’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme. She has supported countries such as Ethiopia and Nigeria to introduce green growth policies and options, and represented the UK in the UN Climate Change negotiations, specifically on the question of how much finance is needed to support developing countries to act on climate change and how to ensure such finance is well spent.
In the past, Hannah also led a team to organize the 1stever meeting of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation – which aims to help countries work together to make aid and other policies – such as trade and investment – deliver as much poverty reduction in poorer countries as possible.
Joan Xu
ScreenwriterJoan Xu is a multi-cultural screenwriter in Beijing, driven by a love of great stories and entertainment. She aims to create Chinese movies that can help represent modern China to global audiences.
Ms. Xu has work experience in industries spanning finance, tech, consulting, media and NGOs. Previously, Ms. Xu worked in Strategic Development at Qunar.com, China’s largest online travel platform. She also spearheaded a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization called IMUSE, which orchestrated fellowship programs for top university students from the US and China, seeking to bring together future leaders in intimate dialogue. During her student years, Ms. Xu held internships in China at McKinsey & Company, Lenovo, Xinhua News Agency, and also served as a volunteer during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Ms. Xu holds an M.A. in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Chicago, and an A.B. in Government and Economics from Harvard University.
Josephine Mason
Chief Correspondent - Commodities China at Thomson ReutersJosephine arrived in Beijing in August to run the Reuters commodities team in China, moving from New York where she was deputy commodities editor for the Americas. This was her first stint in Asia, having worked in Europe and the States for daily print, weekly trade publications and news wires. Josephine has been at Reuters for five years and has spent most of her career reporting on commodities covering anything from the impact of China’s meteoric economic growth on the nation’s need for base metals, grains and oil to how Wall Street banks’ involvement in these niche markets have roiled prices and supply of key raw materials such as aluminium.
She completed her BA and Masters in German literature in London and her first job was in Frankfurt reporting on the internet bubble that burst in 2000.
Em Roblin
Founder of LEAPEm has been based in Beijing for a decade and has been working regionally in Asia since she founded LEAP in 2010. Em is focused on developing female leaders.
She works with organizations by creating meaningful learning journeys for women and by partnering with executives to drive change and create more inclusive environments. Em has worked with Fortune 500 companies from a range of industries including technology, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, consumer products, financial services and more. She has a strategic alliance with a US-based management consulting firm and collaborates on global D&I projects with leading companies.
Em also works with professional women outside of organizations through her quickly growing peer coaching program, where she is the creator and cofounder, The Fulfilled Self. This initiative attracts achievement oriented professional women who want to maximize their impact and be their best selves.
She has been invited as a guest lecturer at several notable universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, INSEAD, and was recipient of the Ernst & Young Women in Business Inspiration Leadership Award in 2011. She is Canadian, with an MPA from Ryerson University and a BAH in Education and Mathematics from Queen's University
Alessandra Aresu
Country Director of Handicap International Federation, China ProgrammeDR. ALESSANDRA ARESU is the Country Director of Handicap International Federation, China Programme, since January 2013. Since then Handicap International launched a project which is still on going on the theme of “disability gender and sexuality” in partnership with local DPOs.
Dr. Aresu is originally from Italy. After obtaining her first degree in Political Science (1999, Milan University), she moved to London for her Master Degree in Chinese Studies (2001, School of Oriental and African Studies), followed by her doctoral degree on Gender, sexuality and education in Contemporary China (2001-2006, University of Westminster, London). Before joining Handicap International she worked as lecturer and as post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Milano-Bicocca (Italy) and University of Bristol (UK). Dr. Aresu conducted extensive research work on gender, sexuality, women’s related issues, and disability in China and she is the author of numerous articles published on these topics. Her working experience also includes collaborations with UN agencies and non-governmental organization in UK, Italy and Haiti.
Martina Fuchs
Host and Business Reporter at CCTV NEWSMartina Fuchs is CCTV NEWS Host and Business Reporter for the Global Business show (http://cctv.cntv.cn/lm/globalbusinessasia/index.shtml) based in Beijing. She joined the rapidly expanding channel in 2012.
Previously, she worked as Reuters Economy Correspondent for the Gulf Arab region based in Dubai and as Reuters Financial TV Producer in London. She holds a Masters degree in Economic History from the University in Geneva, Switzerland, and a Postgraduate Diploma in TV Journalism from the American University in Cairo, Egypt.
She graduated in 2015 with a Master of Science in Global Finance (MSGF) with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the New York University Stern Business School.
She speaks 9 languages, including: German, French, English, Chinese (HSK level 5), Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Italian, and Swahili.
Lei Cheng

She began her career in finance in Australia, holding accountant and business analyst roles with Cadbury Schweppes and ExxonMobil from. Returning to China in 2001, Cheng Lei has reported on China's business and economic issues, conducting one-on-one interviews with CEOs and political figures. She hosted the Australia China Business Awards 2013, the APEC Women Leadership Forum 2014 and was a panellist on ABC television’s Q&A program filmed in Shanghai in 2014. Cheng Lei is a Certified Practising Accountant, holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Queensland, and is the inaugural Australian Alumni Ambassador for China.

Julie Broussard
Country Programme Manager at UN Women China OfficeMs. Julie Broussard is the Country Programme Manager for the UN Women China Office. She is the Chair of the UN Task Force on China’s first national domestic violence law and the Chair for the UN Theme Group on Gender, a forum which advocates gender equality in the work of the UN System and wider donor community. Before coming to UN Women, she worked for UNFPA, UNESCO, and the World Bank.
Jennifer De Rose
Executive Director of Americans Promoting Study AbroadJennifer De Rose is the Executive Director of Americans Promoting Study Abroad (APSA), a non-profit established in 2008 supporting youth from underserved US communities empowering them through global education programs. The organization has a network of 400 Alumni across the US and is focused on reaching 1000 youth by 2020.
Born in Canada, Jennifer grew up with a great passion for adventure sports. She first came to China in 2005 for a rock climbing trip and was hired as a climbing guide in rural Yangshuo. She continued her time in China working with several companies focused on empowering youth through experiential learning and cross-cultural experiences. She is also involved in collaborative projects supporting the development of Chinese women and girls in extreme sports such as the World Snowboard Federation's PROWomen initiative for China.
