Civil Engineer, graduated from ESTP in Paris, specializing in Environment and Territory Planning, Joseph came to China in 2007 to coordinate botanical acclimation & research glasshouse construction projects, in Chongqing, Guangzhou and Kunming for Marchegay SA. Then, stood as advisor on sustainable strategy at ELST associés, a management consulting company focusing on mediation and conflict resolution, knowledge and information management, career & cross-cultural coaching and project management services.
In 2011, he participated in the first Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen (DGNB) training for International consultants in Köln, Germany.
Joseph then joined energydesign (Shanghai)’s team with his field professional background and great passion of implementing sustainable and energy efficient buildings in China and Asia.
Using DGNB’s framework as a tool to coordinate integration of brief, design, construction, then operation and verification stages of a project, he steers sustainability concepts in buildings, starting with energydesign’s core field of expertise: energy concepts and energy audit of existing buildings.
He is also involved with pilot German Passive House projects in China, for the site quality assurance.
Joseph has driven either as Project Manager, either as Auditor numerous sustainable projects, including:
-Nanshan Botanical Garden’s acclimation glass house in Chongqing
-Sino-German Ecopark’s business center in Qingdao, certified with DGNB Platinum for mix-use Office and Hotel
-Landsea Bruck in Huzhou, certified with DGNB Platinum for residential buildings
-BASF R&D lab in Shanghai, aiming at DGNB Silver for laboratory buildings
-Vallourec Changzhou Industrial Waste heat recovery concept

Project Director “Capacity Building for the establishment of emissions trading schemes (ETS) in China” at GIZ

Kristian Wilkening is the GIZ project director of the project “Capacity Building for the establishment of emissions trading schemes (ETS) in China”. The project provides technical advice and supports the strengthening of capacities for the development, establishment and implementation of ETS in China, both at the national and local level. It also facilitates the exchange of ETS related experiences and expertise between Chinese, German and European institutions and seeks to enhance the dialogue between political decision-makers and the private sector in China.

Before joining GIZ, Kristian worked for the secretariat of the International Carbon Action Partnership (ICAP), a network enabling governments to exchange experiences on establishing and developing ETS and adelphi, a Berlin based consultancy in the field of climate and energy. His focus primarily lied with the analysis of international carbon markets, supporting the development of ETS in emerging economies and Sino-German government cooperation on broader environmental and climate change issues.
