Arthur Fan

Arthur Fan

Originally from Hong Kong, and once studied at Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University in Beijing. Arthur is now an independent artist and designer.

Arthur now spends most of his time travelling between Beijing and Hong Kong. When living in France at a young age he developed an interest for the arts. Returning to Hong Kong and raised under the french international school education system he kept pursuing this passion for expression in the art classes at school and in extra curricular lessons.

In this series of work Arthur uses non figurative contents, shapes and colours to create something beautiful and harmonious. His aim is to go back to the roots of aestheticism to break away from all contexts. He believes that beauty has an absolute standard that does not vary according to where and when the art appears. He also thinks that what makes art different from a message is its essence. It should uplift the human soul.

His work makes me think of Takashi Murakami's flowers, filled with vibrant colors. His 90cm x 90cm silk scarfs reminds me of the Hermes ones colorful and elegant. Some of his prints are very suitable to be printed on ceramic plates and tea cups or even on the fabric parts of umbrellas.
