11th VDMA China Mechanical Engineering Summit

The VDMA China Mechanical Engineering Summit is the annual members gathering of the VDMA in China, jointly organized by its two offices in Beijing and in Shanghai. The 11th edition of the event will take place on September 21 in Shanghai and you are cordially invited to attend. The leading topic in 2022 will be "The Supply Chain Challenge".

With over 19 billion Euro export volume in 2021, China is the 2nd largest export market for German machines and equipment. But also, the investment on site is huge, accumulating to 7 billon Euro, which accounts for 16 percent of the total investment of German mechanical engineering abroad. In the past decades, German and European companies have heavily invested in manufacturing capacities, sales and service operations sourcing activities have been continuously build-up and supply chains interlinked.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, global supply chains are under tremendous pressure. This year the situation has deteriorated even further with the war in Ukraine and the many regional lockdowns seen in China, especially the one in Shanghai posed unprecedented challenges. As a consequence, companies are facing shortages of products, strong price increases, severely delayed transportation, and this all at the same time. The challenges are new in many respects and require new approaches. While China has been a major investment destination, it has become a destination of many question marks. During the Summit we will discuss the current challenges seen in supply chain with VDMA members and various guest speakers. The event is designed with a combination of objective insights, expert guidance, peer experience sharing and open discussion.
