The EU and China are negotiating a bilateral agreement to eventually recognise and protect two hundred European and Chinese geographical indications, 100 from each side. This agreement will ensure protection for the listed products against imitations and usurpations and is expected to result in reciprocal trade benefits and increased consumers' awareness and demand for high-quality products on both sides.

Raising awareness about geographical indications is an important objective for the European Union's Colours by Europe communication campaign in China, and as such, we are delighted to invite you to the EU's Geographical Indications Conference.

The conference will be opened by Mr. Nicolas Dandois, Counsellor for Agriculture at the EU Delegation to China, who will provide an overview of the European Union GI system. He will be followed by a representative of China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, who will highlight the importance of the recognition of Geographical Indications and the work that China does in this regard. There will also be representatives from Member States sharing a success cases of EU GIs in China. The content part of the conference will be closed by Pablo Recio, from the Colours by Europe campaign, who will introduce the newly published catalogue of the one hundred EU GIs included in the agreement and the GI exhibition that will take place in Nali Patio that same day. All attendees will receive a hard copy of the catalogue.

There will be a short cooking demo featuring the main dish in the menu that will be served to all attendees immediately afterwards; and that will include a selection of EU GIs. After lunch, attendees will be taken to Nali Patio, where an exhibition focusing on EU GIs will be inaugurated at 2pm.
