Europe has a long-standing history of pig farming and pork eating, it cultivated a lot of excellent pig breeds and has had a significant impact on the world pig breeding industry.



China plays a key role in the world's live pig trade as well, the country consumes most of the pork products, and despite China producing half of the total volume of swine, it still cannot satisfy its tremendous market need. Now European pork is here to fulfil this gap, European pigs are widely recognized among Chinese consumers for its excellent breeds, high-quality grain feeding and suitable living environment. In the last three years, the European Union has become the biggest pork source of China, with 54.12% of the market share. In 2022, although the pandemic hit the economy severely, Spain stayed on the top of the list of China's pork imports accounting for 29.01% market share, and Portugal, a rising star, is also becoming an increasingly important role.

We are delighted to invite you to attend an exclusive tasting event at one of the finest hotel, Marco Polo. During this tasting, Chef Zhang will elaborate on different topics, including pork cuts, key merits and specific characteristics of EU pork, with the objective of increasing the knowledge among F&B professionals about pork from the European Union, China's main sourcing partner.


Meanwhile, the executive chef of the hotel Jimmy Gao, will perform a cooking demo on stage. You will get to taste an individual portion of four different dishes, paired with superb EU wines selected by Chief Sommelier Ray Lei. That's not all! Cured meats such as ham are Spain's and Portugal's national treasure, and as such, a ham carving demonstration and tasting will be performed by ham carver Andy Zhang.
