Join the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai for our educational webinar on Wednesday, 18 November 2020. In this expert event we will explore what the short and long term future holds for Chinese students looking to study in the UK.


We have the honour to invite Freddie Winterbotham, Vice President at Holland Park Education China, Sherry Fu, Director at China Centre of the University of Manchester, Yasmin Sarwar, Chief Education Officer at Oxford International College and Dr. Mengmeng Wang-Purcell, Founder and CEO of CamVision Education Ltd.

Freddie, who co-runs Holland Park Education China, has rich experience in providing families with the highest quality international education solutions over 8 years.  This time, Freddie will introduce the stage for students who prepare to move to the UK and some useful guidelines. 


Yasmin joined Oxford International College as Chief Education Officer and developed an innovative "Strategic Global Pathways" curriculum, combines Academic Excellence, Career Preparation and Personal Development, which represents Yasmin's successful 'East and West' philosophy. In this webinar, Yasmin will talk about what measures private boarding schools like OIC have taken to support international students and if there is anything particular that international students need to take in account when applying to a boarding school in the UK during or post-pandemic.


Sherry Fu, as the founding director of the University of Manchester China Centre in Shanghai, will share about insights for studying in UK universities.


Dr. Mengmeng Wang-Purcell founded her own company after graduating with a BA MEng and PhD in Engineering for Life Science, CamVision Education Ltd. CamVision is a fully integrated service provider which aims to bridge the gap between the UK and China's diverse education and technology sectors. Mengmeng is going to share her own personal experience about how she moved to the UK 16 years ago and what was her pathway progressing through boarding school, University and career.

    Ms. Sherry Fu is the founding director of the University of Manchester China Centre in Shanghai. She manages business strategies, alumni relations and partnerships of the University of Manchester in China. Sherry was appointed as an envoy to the City of Manchester in 2013 and awarded ‘Pilot of Chinese business education’ in 2016-2018 by China State Council Information Office. She holds Masters’ degree in Contemporary Literature in London as well as MBA degree from the University of Manchester. She is vice-chair of the education focus group. She published a few books such as overseas Chinese corporate reputation and Preparing for multiple challenges on the Belt and Road. She lives in Shanghai with her family.

    Educator, Record-breaker, and Malaysia's Most Successful Woman in Education

    Yasmin Sarwar is one of the most successful Malaysians within the UK educational field. Born in Lawas and raised in Kuching, Yasmin received secondary education in both Malaysia and the UK. This cross-cultural experience is reflected in her “East meets West” educational philosophy: she is a true “edupreneur”, an innovator in education.

    Yasmin co-founded Cardiff Sixth Form College in 2004, a school that has since become one of the most successful A-Level colleges in the UK and a major destination for international students. She joined Oxford International College in 2017 as Chief Education Officer. Her innovative “Strategic Global Pathways” curriculum, developed for Oxford International College, combines Academic Excellence, Career Preparation and Personal Development.

    Yasmin has received a number of prestigious awards, including a Welsh Asian Women Achievement Award (2015), the Pearson Science Teacher of the Year Award, and a Pearson Teaching Awards Fellowship (2011). Yasmin is regularly invited to share her expertise with government officials, fellow educators, parents, and students. Her public talks have included speeches at the Welsh Assembly and a TEDx talk.

    Dr. Mengmeng Wang founded CamVision Education Ltd based on the success of its sister company CamVision Ltd (now merged with www.britbots.com). As its CEO she has a passionate mission to bridge the divide between the Chinese and UK education and technology sectors which has grown naturally from her own bi-national background and deep experience.
    Mengmeng’s career innovating in the education and technology sector is grounded in her BA and Masters in Engineering of Life Science followed by a PhD in Bioscience Engineering, all from Murray Edwards College (2006-2016), the University of Cambridge.
    Taking a wholistic approach to her area of business speciality, Mengmeng has invested in eight different startups and sits on the board of four of them in different industry areas. Moreover, she offers her services pro-bono to education by volunteering in numerous charities in the UK helping underprivileged kids and also her continuous participating in the new hall society committee in her formal college Murray Edwards to support new graduates.
