Completed and Ongoing Chinese IP Reforms

In recent years, China's intellectual property system has demonstrated its ability to rapidly adapt to new social and economic conditions. The lecture will shed light on the recently completed reforms to the institutional framework for the prosecution and enforcement of intellectual property. It will, furthermore, address the completed and ongoing amendments to the laws, administrative regulations and judicial interpretations in the light of China's ever-increasing importance as a global economic superpower, and it will also highlight landmark case law on important issues such as artificial intelligence, standard-essential patents or streaming of copyright protected content, which may impact on future intellectual property legislation.

    German Co-Director of the Sino-German International Economic Law Institute at Tongji University

    Peter Ganea is German Co-Director of the Sino-German International Economic Law Institute at Tongji University. He has been Head of the Asia Department of the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Munich and has coordinated an interdisciplinary M.A. programme on modern East Asian Studies at Frankfurt University. He has published on intellectual property and competition law in Asia and he has taught numerous courses on intellectual property law and law in general.

    Executive Chamber Manager at German Chamber of Commerce in China | Shanghai

    In October 2016, Dr. Sigrid Winkler was appointed Executive Chamber Manager at the German Chamber of Commerce in China | Shanghai and is in charge of the membership organization at the Chamber. Dr. Winkler joined the German Chamber earlier in spring 2016, initially as Project Manager Social Responsibility where she was responsible for the More than a Market initiative. Dr. Winkler holds a PhD in Political Science from Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium and a bachelor’s degree in Chinese Studies from Vienna University. Before joining the German Chamber, she was Head of Office of the Austrian Academic Exchange Agency (OeAD) in Shanghai. Previously, Dr. Winkler managed international business development projects in China and Eastern Europe for Business Upper Austria, the economic agency of the regional government of Upper Austria. She has published numerous peer-reviewed articles on EU-China relations, and since 2002, she has been regularly coming back to China for shorter and longer-term stays.
