The coronavirus outbreak has been affecting companies across all industries, forcing many businesses to undergo organizational restructuring, lay off employees, or shut down altogether. The food industry is no different, having been dealt a direct blow to their daily operations.. Hotels and restaurants worldwide were among the first to suffer the consequences of COVID-19, and months later, they are still struggling to attract now-wary customers. Supermarkets and food delivery platforms remained open during lockdowns of cities, but nonetheless kept adjusting their operations to meet the increased demand while keeping their staff safe. The pandemic also wreaked havoc at the very core of the food industry – agriculture. Disruptions in delivery and soaring unemployment rates left millions of farmers in a dire situation – both in Asia and around the world. In Germany, for example, travel bans restrict the movement of seasonal workers from Eastern Europe, crippling the local agriculture and deepening their financial strain.
In this webinar, we will discuss the ongoing challenges of the food industry – tracing the pandemic's effects from soil to packaged food, and from dining out to staying in:
- Will coronavirus change safety standards in the food industry?
- How do bigger and small businesses cope with the situation?
- How do companies continue to fulfill their corporate social responsibly during these times?
- What are the possible impacts of the current crisis on food quality and nutrition and what are the measures needed to protect food safety?
The German Chamber of Commerce in China invites all members and non-members to join this webinar and learn how the food industry is affected by the crisis, and what measures they have taken to battle the effects.
