When author and journalist Karoline Kan was named 2019 Young China Watcher of The Year in October, judges hailed her commitment to "sharing a more nuanced perspective of China".
We're delighted to bring Karoline together with fellow writer Zhang Lijia to discuss their stories, and how they convey China's complexity to an international audience.
Karoline's 2019 debut bookUnder Red Skies is an acclaimed account of three generations in her family, including her own experience as a Chinese millennial. Lijia is author of the memoir Socialism is Great!, as well as her debut novel Lotus.
They will cover the challenges of researching your own family, writing in a second language, changing gender roles in China...and anything else you want to ask them!
You can find out more about Karoline's award here.
