SwedCham and FBCS are happy to invite three female business leaders to a panel discussion where we will discuss success factors and barriers for female leaders.

The purpose of this event is to share and inspire more women to become leaders and to believe in their leadership skills. We also want to highlight the challenges female leaders in China are facing and how we together can overcome these challenges.


At this seminar, the speakers will share stories from their own experiences:

  • Lessons learnt - what have we learned from our own professional careers?
  • Why is it important for both men and women to support other women in their professions?
  • What are the unique challenges women face in workplace in China?


Time: Thursday, 2nd of July 2020, 18:00-20:00

About the panelists:


Grace Liu, General Manager at Evac Vacuum Systems

Grace has worked across the public institutions, facilities management, engineering and consulting, cleantech solution industries for 20 years, in startups as well as multinationals. She has held roles in broadcasting, HR, administration, finance management, operations, as well as general management leadership.


Grace has a Bachelor Degree in Human Resources Management, and has several certifications in HR and Coaching. She got interested in coaching 4 years ago and has been learning and practicing since then.


Unie Liu, Head of Human Capital and Regional Chairman's Office at Samvardhana Motherson Group

Unie has more than 20 years' experience in the HR field and over 6 years' experience as an HR Manager. During her career she has been working with Human Resource Development in multinational companies for ten years. Unie is currently working for Samvardhana Motherson Group with a management role to control the Chinese compliance.


Throughout her years working with HR-related issues, Unie has been exposed to western management and culture, therefore understanding the cross-culture nature of multinational companies' business environment. Unie has strong ethics and values which guide her in her HR leadership and coaching roles.

Michel Zhao, Vice President of Corporate Communications at Volvo Car Asia Pacfic

Michel Zhao joined Volvo Cars in January 2017 and was appointed Vice President of Corporate Communications at Volvo Car Asia Pacific. Her role oversees brand communications, stakeholder communications, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and internal communications, with the overarching goal to promote the Volvo Cars brand, strengthen the corporate image and create a favorable business environment for Volvo Car Asia Pacific.


Prior to joining the company, she was the Head of Communications Centre APAC for another Swedish company, SKF, a global leader in the bearings industry for more than 100 years. Her key responsibility was to coordinate communications within the Asia Pacific region.


Mrs Zhao has many years' experience in promoting Nordic culture and its brands in the Asia Pacific region, with a special focus on China.



About the Moderator:


Vivien Newrzella, Coach, Trainer, and Facilitator at Fiducia Management Consultants

Vivien is a strong intercultural communicator with specialized knowledge in business in China and a people strategist with a big heart. In her current role with Fiducia Management Consultants, she leads all Talent Development related curricula and activities such as the training calendar, the HiPerformance Program, Employee Engagement activities, the E-Learning platform, and One-on-One coaching.


Having discovered her passion for bringing people together in order to learn, innovate, improve or step up, has led her to start coaching women on the side as well as running workshops covering various soft skills. In 2016, she started a program called "The graceful negotiator", helping especially women to become more confident to stand and speak up for themselves, negotiate for what they deserve.


Vivien has been living in Shanghai since 2014 and has engaged with the community as a speaker at Chamber events and as a guest lecturer at Tongji University. Vivien is an active board member at LEAN IN China International and chairs the board of the GC Young Leaders chapter, here in Shanghai.
