Event Summary

China's rapid development is bringing about profound changes for its people. From urbanization to population aging, from ethnic policy to gender inequity, the issues confronting Chinese politicians and their citizens are myriad and complex.

Domestic media outlets are well placed to capture snapshots of these changes, thanks to their plentiful resources and enviable levels of access. But reporting from within the Chinese system also carries deep-seated and well-known challenges. How should domestic journalists seek to cover contentious issues in such a tightly controlled media landscape? And in doing so, how can they ensure that their work is not just accurate and impartial, but also impactful, empathetic, and beautiful?

Join us this Friday, January 18, as we invite Matthew Walsh, features editor of Sixth Tone, to talk off-the-record about his personal opinions on reporting social change in China.

Fresh Start Rotary Club of Shanghai is a member club of a global network of 1.2 million who envision a world where people unite to create lasting change. We support social enterprise and help empower entrepreneurs with a social purpose.

We warmly welcome all to attend, listen, and ask questions.
