From just 5 days to 6 months of age, orphaned babies arrive needing both surgery and a home. The Shanghai Healing Home provides these.

How does a foster home provide surgery and care for young children and infants while remaining entirely funded through donations? How does the home care for the children and arrange for their adoption?

Join us this Friday, February 22, as we invite Aaron Gfeller, director of Shanghai Healing Home, to discuss his experience directing the non-profit foster home.

The Shanghai Healing Home is a non-profit organization that assists the Chinese Children's Welfare Institutes by caring for orphan children who have some kind of medical or surgical problem. SHH provides a home-like environment that meets not only the babies' physical needs but also their emotional and developmental needs.

The goal for all of the Home's kids is adoption, so it does a lot to help advocate for their adoption. Since SHH opened in 2009, it has cared for 156 children, had 282 surgeries performed, and 90 children adopted. There are currently 24 children in the Home and it staffs many full-time, trained caregivers so that the kids are well cared for 24/7.

The Home runs completely through private donations and all money given to SHH goes directly to the care provided for the babies in the Home.
