Miguel Palacios, Professor at ESCP Europe Business School
Miguel Palacios is a Professor of Management and the Executive Education Associate Dean at ESCP Europe, Madrid Campus. Miguel has been involved for the last 18 years in entrepreneurship and education. First launching companies for clients in the ICT, travel and media sectors throughout Europe at DiamondCluster (now Oliver Wyman) and later in education both at educational institutions (Universidad Politecnica de Madrid – UPM and ESCP Europe) and various companies (in company training). Always adapting international and US based knowledge to completely different contexts (Spain, Latin America, Africa) for entrepreneurship. Miguel holds a Bs., M.Sc. and PhD. (Business Administration / Entrepreneurship) by Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (UPM) an M.Sc. by Ecole Centrale Paris and an MBA from MIT Sloan.
He is one of the promoters of BAN Madri+d (2004/5), the first business angel network in Madrid and actuaupm (2003), the business plan competition of UPM that has created over 220 companies from university environments with some hundred Million € of private direct investments (June 2019 data). Examples include Plant Response Biotech, Agnitio, Touristeye (sold to Lonely Planet) or Sentisis. Many of them located themselves in university incubators for which he developed motivational, educational and networking programs. He has collaborated in multiple research projects on entrepreneurship policy and early stage funding for regional, national, European and American institutions (i.e Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, European Social Fund, World Bank, EOI Business School) and as advisor and evaluator for the DG Industry and the Regional Government of Madrid. Prior to joining ESCP Europe, he was the Coordinator of the Business Administration Unit (with over 20 faculty and staff) at Universidad Politecnica de Madrid and the coordinator of two Erasmus Mundus masters at UPM in collaboration with Royal Institute of Stockholm and Politecnico de Milano among others.
He has been President of the Jury of the 3rd China (Shenzhen) Innovation & Entrepreneurship International Competition in Spain.
His research areas include entrepreneurship, innovation and its organizational implications, innovation and family business and innovation in the energy sector.

Currently companies are facing quick and constant change, in many cases beyond their current internal R&D capabilities and knowledge. We will comment on the reasons for that and potential organizational solutions to handle that situation. We will define open innovation and some of the tools used by corporates.
