Dear Sir or Madam,
In recent years, both China and Germany have gradually adopted the development of a circular economy as an important way to mitigate climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In 2020, China reduced CO2 emissions by about 2.6 billion tons through developing a circular economy. In October 2021, the Chinese State Council issued the "Action Plan for Achieving Carbon Peaks by 2030", proposing an Action "Circular Economy to Help Reduce Carbon Emissions" which should improve the overall resource efficiency and create the synergy of reducing resource consumption and carbon reduction. In January 2022, the Department of Ecology and Environment of China's Jiangsu Province announced a plan to develop zero waste cities across the province. Waste recycling is a key component of the circular economy and well developed in Germany. Thanks to the Dual System introduced in 1990, Germany has high disposal standards in the waste sector.
Baden-Württemberg has many traditional companies and innovative start-ups in waste recycling sector that can offer common solutions, experiences or ideas for the problems and challenges encountered by Jiangsu Province in building zero waste cities. For example, saving resources through low-waste production and recover energy and secondary raw materials from waste - such as recycled building materials from construction waste, phosphorus from sewage sludge or plastics, metals, glass and paper from municipal waste.
In order to deepen the exchange between Jiangsu Province and Baden-Württemberg in the field of waste management and to promote cooperation between industry and research in these two regions, the TRENT team planned this event and invited experts and companies to discuss the current challenges as well as the future priorities and potential directions for cooperation.
We warmly invite you to participate in the Sino-German Industry Workshop on Waste Recycling on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 |15:00-17:30(CST) / 9:00-11:30 (CEST) via MS Teams.
In the first part of the workshop, the deputy head of "Solid Waste and Chemicals" division from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of Jiangsu Province will give a keynote speech. In addition, a representative from KIT will report on cooperation projects between science and industry in the field of waste recycling. In the following competence showcases round, the representative companies and institutions from Jiangsu and Baden-Württemberg will have the opportunities to present their products and technologies or introduce their need for technical solutions and their requirements to the potential cooperation partners. In the Q&A and discussion session, the participants can raise specific topics, intensify networking and explore the possibility of future cooperation.
We are looking forward to your participation!

Background information about TRENT:
Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) together with Umwelttechnik BW, the State Agency for Environmental Technology and Resource Efficiency Baden-Württemberg (UTBW), have established the "Transnational Competence Center for Environmental Technology and Research Jiangsu Baden-Württemberg" (TRENT). This project is funded by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection and Energy Sector of Baden-Württemberg. In addition, the office of Baden-Württemberg International in Nanjing (BW_i Nanjing) and KIT China Branch in Suzhou will contribute to the competence center with its network in Jiangsu.
TRENT aims to permanently, systematically and structurally bundle existing competences and technologies in environmental sciences from Jiangsu and Baden-Württemberg and provide a platform for exchange and communication between universities and research institutions, public authorities and private enterprises in these two regions. Therefore, TRENT will hold a series of events to promote exchanges and collaboration of mutual interest.
