Event Summary

Join us this Friday, November 8, as we invite Christa Kröger-Wang to talk about Harmony Shanghai, a community dance project which aims to bridge different cultures. Discuss with her how dance and music can help young people to grow, make lasting friendships and think out of the box.

"Every traditional culture has its dance. The young people who come to the study of dance bring their peerless perennial grace and power.

They must learn to count rhythm, memorize the chants, identify certain plants, observe the seasons, absorb the gestures of animals, and to move as timely as a falcon on a stoop. Thus, they are borne by their culture to become culture-bearers.

[…] Its true that many people today do not quite have their own song and dance.

Current music is too much a commodity, too much in flux, it cannot dye us. We are not quite sure what our home music is."

[Poet and anthropologist Gary Snyder]

It is against this background of changing regional and national cultures, of a music and dance deprived global village, that Christa Kröger-Wang founded in 2013 Harmony Shanghai with the objective of establishing community dance.

She successfully produced several performances with each more than 100 dancers of different nationalities:

2012 - The Firebird by Igor Stravinsky

2014 - The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky

2016 - Carmina Burana by Carl Orff

2018 - The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi

Harmony Shanghai's tries to bring young people of different cultures together through dancing where they can learn from each other, respect each other and most important they make friendship with students from other countries.

During this dance program, for the first time in their life these kids discover the joy of dancing to classical music.

They get skills in teamwork, they become creative, they learn how to push themselves to reach the goal to perform on stage – it surly changes their lives.

AWARENESS - TOLERANCE - CREATIVITY - SELF CONFIDENCE - TEAM ABILITY - ORGANIZATIONAL CAPACITY

are only some personal steps of development of every single child in the process of being part in a community dance project.

We are looking forward to see you this Friday, November 8 and hear Christa Kröger-Wang's talk about Harmony Shanghai.

After her talk we discuss with her how dance and music can help young people to grow, make lasting friendships and think out of the box.
