About the Session

China's role as a major trading partner for Latin America continues to grow. China–Latin America trade reached US$510 billion in 2024, nearly doubling over the previous decade. China is already Latin America's second-largest trading partner after the US, and studies suggest that it could overtake the US as the region's largest trading partner by 2035.

But what does this expansion really mean for businesses? What are the existing trade corridors, what legal and regulatory frameworks shape them, and where are the concrete opportunities?

Our first Breakfast@DaWo session will explore these questions, bringing together legal and business perspectives on the growing commercial relationship between China and Latin America.

What We'll Discuss

The session will look at:

• The background and drivers behind the expansion of China–Latin America trade
• The legal and regulatory frameworks shaping these exchanges
• Existing trade corridors and market-access opportunities
• Concrete business examples and experiences
• Practical considerations for businesses looking to enter or expand into Latin American markets

The session will combine an expert talk and roundtable discussion, with a focus on practical insights, discussion, and problem-solving.

Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, exchange perspectives, and discuss the opportunities and challenges surrounding China–Latin America trade.

We'll be joined by two experts bringing different perspectives to the discussion:

👤 Luis-Felipe Borja – An Ecuadorian legal counsel specialising in corporate, trade, and China–Latin America affairs, with a Master's degree in Chinese Civil and Commercial Law from Peking University. He will provide insights into the legal framework shaping China–Latin America trade and investment, including trade agreements, market access, and the opportunities and challenges businesses face when operating across these markets.

👤 Maxi Postigo – An Argentine business executive based in Shanghai for over 20 years, specialising in international trade, finance, and business development between China and Latin America. Founder and CEO of Panda Corporation, co-founder of WeWine, and founder of LAC+, he leads projects in trade expansion, sourcing, investment, and business representation, and will share concrete examples of China–Latin America business exchanges, including in the wine industry.
