“Security and Risk Management in China”

A Pragmatic Approach to Addressing Security and Risk Management Issues in China for Mid-Size German Companies:
“To avert pitfalls, they must first be identified”

This workshop will focus primarily on the following topics:

What is security?
The security of your business is only as good as the security training of your employees. What does security mean for your business in China? How exposed or vulnerable is your business to security threats/attacks? As a company manager security issues are on your mind but what about your staff? Learn ‘practical’ steps to train the inner-security sense that is within all of us.

Conflicts of interest cases: manufacturing and retail
Additionally, the ‘entitlement syndrome’ should be addressed i.e., “I helped to build your business and made money for you; therefore, I deserve to capitalize on my hard work”. From the perspective of this employee, ‘I rightfully deserve more than a salary, therefore, to defraud your company is ethical’.

ATR (asset trace and recovery) cases:
When is it appropriate for a company to undertake an ATR case and the steps involved (with a few case samples)? What to do, who to call when your attorneys prove ineffective, the courts move too slowly from your perspective and the police do not give priority to your case. Nonetheless, the problem continues and is a serious matter for your business?

Physical security (factories):
Maintaining operational control of your business; e.g., locating a factory in China requires cultural knowledge and competence to avoid long-term harmful and detrimental choices i.e., who is choosing the factory site and what is their relationship to the site. What does your company have that is worth protecting and how or what steps have you taken to protect it?

Personal security: How not to become a victim
Building ‘Guan Xi’ (relationships) from day one. Developing community outreach with municipal authorities. Some forms of fraud and violence have become more pronounced; e.g., workplace violence, threats (verbal and physical) against fellow employees, kidnapping, forced house arrests etc.

Finally, we will review various mitigation strategies and controls for some of these situations.
