Dr. Clemens von Goetze, German Ambassador to China:

Opportunities and Challenges for German-Chinese Economic Relations

Current economic headwinds and international trade spats pose challenges for businesses worldwide. In China, German companies are confronted with an increasingly complex environment. Slowing growth, fiercer competition and regulatory obstacles weigh on their business confidence. Uncertainty about the outcome of Sino-US trade talks has put many investment decisions on hold. Yet German and Chinese businesses and our governments have intensified their cooperation to stem the tide. Expectations are high to reach an ambitious EU-China investment agreement, a substantial WTO reform and concrete steps to broaden market access. The time is right to give our bilateral economic relations a boost.
