Event Summary

Studies, like the latest one by Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), ask questions like: "Which competencies count in a digitalized, automated, industrialized and urbanized world of tomorrow?" The answer they give is clearly defined, yet complex: creativity, social skills, and prestidigitation.

In Silicon Valley, CFOs and CDOs send their children to a school without smartphones and display-free lessons. Where woodwork, bookwork, and watercolor painting are the foci.

Join us this Friday, December 21, as we invite Christoph Daniel Jia of World Waldorf Camp to discuss his personal march to equip today's children with the skills and competencies needed for our future challenges. In his talk, he will draw upon his academic merits and experience gained through a colorful life of entrepreneurial start-ups.

For 10 years, Christoph has experimented with Waldorf education. He founded the World Waldorf Camp (WWC) and later the Association of Waldorf Education of Greater China (AWEC). Since 2009, he has brought the pedagogical approach of German Waldorf education to China with these NGOs. Coordinated from their Shanghai office, they help educators and parents unfold each child's full and true potential.

Waldorf Education, Germany's largest educational export, was born in 1919 as a cigarette factory reform school in Stuttgart, Germany. It is a system of education that is designed to foster a child's curiosity while simultaneously stimulating intellectual awareness. The goal being to help children develop into confident, creative, comprehensive thinkers with a strong sense of social and environmental responsibility.

Christoph spent an adventurous childhood in Germany and Switzerland doing different outdoor experiential activities. He is the third generation of Waldorf teachers in his family, father of two and occasionally many hundreds, year by year.

Fresh Start Rotary Club of Shanghai is a member club of a global network, a pool of 1.2 million who envision a world where people unite to create lasting change. We support social enterprise and help empower entrepreneurs with a social purpose.

We warmly welcome all to attend, listen, and ask questions.
