The device you are using right now to read this sentence began as a twinkle of inspiration in someone's mind and was later actualized. This is design, and it is ubiquitous.
How can we design products that benefit both people and ecosystems? Is there a way to design a truly sustainable society? These are the questions that drive this week's speaker.
Join us this Friday, September 28, as we invite Gabriele Tempesta, director of YANG DESIGN's City Innovation department to discuss some of his team's successfully implemented social innovation projects, as well as the challenges and processes of designing for social impact.
Gabriele's team has realized different, innovative projects, one of which is a redesign of a disaster relief tent. These are used for emergency shelters in a variety of hostile situations and his team redesigned them to be easier to erect, give the inhabitants a better sense of stability and belonging, and have an extended tent-life. It was a finalist in the International Design Excellence Awards in 2011.
In his talk, Gabriele will highlight some of the design processes behind the work. Some of his team's other projects are: upgrading water access in rural areas, projects for migrant children, and a new product to encourage hand-washing habits in rural areas.
The company Gabriele works for, YANG DESIGN, has won nearly one hundred major design awards. It provides high quality and user-centered design consulting services.
Fresh Start warmly welcomes all to attend, listen, and to ask questions.
