In the past 10 years, Shanghai Young Bakers has empowered over 240 disadvantaged youth through bakery. Through their intensive one-year training program, and due to the growing demand for qualified bakers on the Chinese market, the students graduating from the SYB program can easily find viable employment, lead independent, fulfilling lives, and contribute to society.

Shanghai Young Bakers is now set to deploy an ambitious program that could, within 5 years, help a total of 3,000 marginalised people (deaf, autistic, homeless…) gain access to stable employment.

What will this program look like? How does SYB plan to reconcile market opportunities and social needs to implement it? How can the program stay financially viable? And how can you be part of the adventure?

This Friday, September 14, Cecile Cavoizy, executive director of Shanghai Young Bakers, will tell us about the various experiments that have been conducted within SYB to scale up its operations and its impact and to increase its sustainability. She will share the lessons of what worked and what didn't, and how she sees the future of the organisation as it sets to "revolutionise the baking industry".
