Shanghai itself is its own ecological system. The cities infrastructure and people are interconnected in ways that sometimes we can only occasionally glimpse. Every day countless people, objects, projects and goods interact, are traded and replaced in the daily dance of this large city. The Urban-Rural Bridge seeks to connect this ecosystem with that of the countryside in order to build more resilient and ecologically friendly communities.

Join us this Friday, August 31, as we invite Philip Lohrmann, co-founder of Urban-Rural Bridge (UrB), to talk about his experience of how to scale a social enterprise both ethically and sustainably.

According to Philip, everyone that creates a business or organization is responsible to ask three questions: What do we scale? Is it socially appropriate? Is it responsible?

Furthermore, he feels once the creator is confident with these answers they have to ask: How do we scale ethically and sustainably?

After more than a decade of ruminating on the subject, Philip has answered the first question for himself with some conviction, and the UrB team now has an idea about how they should scale. This Friday, he will share his story about this process and apply some bio-mimetic analogies (he likes to ponder nature's answers to ethical and management questions); touch on both inspirations and challenges; and explain where he hopes the future of UrB will lead.
