As the first online payment platform, PayPal has always focused on innovation to drive growth. It is how it grew from a small startup in 1998 to helping 2 million active account holders and service more than 200 market globally today. With an emphasis on collaboration, PayPal works with various actors in the fintech ecosystem, including industry groups and SMEs, government bodies, startups and universities.

PayPal has made big advances in promoting gender equality in their workforce and particularly, in senior positions. According to the Diversity & Inclusion report which was released by PayPal last October, 43% of their employees are female, and they have seen a 20% year-on-year increase in women at the vice president position and above.

Fintech has had a significant impact on women leadership and innovation in China as the demand for talent has led to greater gender equality in the industry. A report from Oliver Wyman found that of the top 20 fintech companies in China, 50 percent had women founders, CEOS or senior managers. This, in turn, has led to more diverse teams that can attack complex problems from different angles. For Chinese fintech, it means that the industry is better able to solve complex issues, such as compliance and risk management, a problem that looms as the regulatory landscape evolves.
