When one ponders their tech career, the themes that tend to surface circulate around academic qualifications, technical skills, and a fairly healthy IQ. These are obvious facets to consider and are a very necessary part of carving out one's path to the top in the tech-world. There is, however, an aspect that often goes neglected and that is the value of EQ (Emotional Intelligence) in the tech industry.

To truly thrive in this era, even in a 'hardcore' industry like tech, one needs to have a good grasp on the soft skills that come with having high EQ levels. Most tech worlds assume that they can afford to neglect EQ because of the stigma attached to the industry "all brains no heart". It is becoming increasingly apparent that in a world that is driven by connectivity, EQ is the engine that powers everything else one already has going for them. The likes of world-class 21st-century tech leaders like Richard Branson, who has become known for leading with both head and heart have solidified the necessity of EQ in the tech field. Mark Robinson co-founder of London-based PSA company, Kimble Applications, and tech executive and activist Sheryl Sandberg, are also amongst a handful of EQ pioneers who have changed the game using EQ and IQ to leverage their impact in the world of tech.
