In 2008, Satoshi Nakamoto came up with the idea for a P2P value exchange platform called Bitcoin. Today, Bitcoin itself is now worth nearly $20,000 (as of this second, subject to change…), which is a feat on its own, but it has also brought the world ‘blockchain technology’ which provides a secure, trustless, and encrypted distributed ledger platform for exchanging value or digital assets.
The technology is young, and we are only scratching the surface of what is possible in the future, but the implications could be huge, for not just commercial but also social applications. Already there are a number of new projects launched looking at how blockchain can promote financial inclusion, economic empowerment and address environmental concerns.
This Friday, January 12, Zennon Kapron, founder of Kapronasia, will provide an overview of blockchain technology itself, explain potential applications, speculate on the probable future, and discuss the possible societal benefits of this technology.
Fresh Start Rotary Club of Shanghai warmly welcomes all to attend, listen and ask questions.
