Economists like Andrew McAfee tell us that increasing automation and computerization, in particular the recent development in AI research and application will lead within the next two decades to a total collapse of our labor markets, in particular the tertiary sector. We need a new social contract with a basic universal income at its center, that seems to be clear to more and more people, but what will we be motivated by when machines and algorithms do what we do now? And what does it take to prepare ourselves for such a transformation?
