From September 27-29, 2017, the 9th edition of the Social Enterprise World Forum took place in Christchurch, New Zealand. Set in a city which strives to reinvent itself after the earthquakes of 2010-2011, the forum saw more than 1,600 delegates from over 25 countries come together to get inspired, learn, discuss and debate over the theme of “Creating our tomorrow” – an invitation to create a global legacy of positive change and to take an active role in shaping the world’s future.

With the support of a generous donor, Cecile Cavoizy, Executive Director of Shanghai Young Bakers, was one of the lucky delegates to participate in this international reunion. Join us this Friday, November 10, to hear her share what struck her most about the Forum, as well as some lessons and insights that she gained along the way. What are the main challenges that global social entrepreneurship tries to address? How effective are social entrepreneurs in shaping the discussion around global issues? What does it take to be part of the solution? And what does it mean for the future of social entrepreneurship in China?

Originally from France, Cecile Cavoizy has been living in Shanghai since 2002 and involved in the development and management of several charity programs as sustainable social enterprises since 2009. She is currently the Executive Director of Shanghai Young Bakers, a non-profit that provides French bakery training to marginalised Chinese youth so that they can find stable employment and lead independent lives after graduation.
