Almost anytime anyone anywhere buys almost anything, more plastic is briefly used and quickly discarded.

Plastic and waste is a considerable obstacle for the modern world, but a few wonderful people have dedicated themselves to helping reduce the degradation of our planet. Amishi Parasrampuria, an upcycler, is one of these people.

How can we upcycle waste? What are the opportunities and limits of upcycling? What is the idea’s future and how does it differ from country to country?

Join us this Friday, October 27th at Fresh Start as we invite Amishi Parasrampuria, founder of TheUpcycle Co. to share her story of why she started upcycling, her hopes for its future, and the impact that it can achieve. She will discuss what we, as citizens, can do to transform society’s excess into successful new ideas.

Upcycling is to recycle so the resulting product is of higher value than the one it was made from. Amishi is currently using this concept working on a project to use over 25,000 discarded plastic bottles to create a public bathroom in Mumbai, India (her hometown).

Amishi is a passionate environmentalist, an upcycler and a member of the Global Shapers Community. She has upcycled thousands of kilograms of waste during her time as a social entrepreneur and saved over 1200kg of carbon emissions in the last two years. In India, she has received recognition for her work, as well as fellowships from universities.

Amishi’s company, The Upcycle Co., aims to change the way people view waste and use it to design handcraft products, help with mass production and use it to create our environment.

Amishi is a member of the Global Shapers Community, which is a child of the World Economic Forum. It gathers people under the age of 30 to self-organize and create wide-ranging, beneficial projects that help their community.
