Rotary is a worldwide organization whose motto: “Service Above Self”; has been a guiding principle of Rotarians for more than 110 years since its inception in Chicago. It is our pleasure to host an esteemed and admired, long-time member.
Join us at Fresh Start this Friday, September 29th, as we invite Frank Yih — longtime Rotarian, philanthropist, and Rotary International's Special Representative Club Affairs in China — to share his experiences and updates about the happenings in the larger Rotary world.
Together with Randal Eastman, Frank has been instrumental in supporting the chartering of the Fresh Start Rotary Club of Shanghai, and we want to pay special tribute to this fact.
Frank has a wide variety of experiences — In 1951, he left Shanghai for Hong Kong. He later went on to study chemical engineering at the University of London and earned his master’s degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Frank then, after helping to create the first integrated circuits in Silicon Valley in 1962, went on to pioneer the semiconductor industry in Southeast Asia. After he achieved success as a businessperson, he wanted to give back to society, which eventually led him to Rotary.
In 2004, Frank started the Huaqiao Foundation, an organization that provides humanitarian services to many areas of rural China. The foundation specializes in projects that focus on improving education, healthcare, and local infrastructure.
In 2007, Frank and his team launched their Go West Program to encourage college students to volunteer in poor areas of China to teach and develop their sense of public devotion.
Come and listen to the long history of Rotary in China, and Frank's journey to become one of the most respected and beloved Rotarians in Asia. All are welcome, and we look forward to seeing everyone.
