In this week’s address, Head of School Malcolm McKenzie writes on the importance of inclusivity as Keystone continues to expand. McKenzie writes, “Being inclusive is a way of protecting the intimacy and fellowship that comes of knowing each other, and caring for everyone. During the Golden Week, Dean of Residential Life and Global and Service Initiatives Juli James and Rick Spadafora, Assistant Head of High School traveled to Ottawa, Canada with six secondary school students to attend the Round Square International Conference. The week proved to be a transformative experience for students, who delved into topics such as diversity and inclusion and engaged with thoughtful keynote speakers such as the current first lady of Canada, Madame Trudeau. On September 27th, Keystone welcomed Naturalist and Science Writer Zhang Chenliang to campus. Mr. Chenliang introduced his book Notes on the Catalogue of Marine Creatures (2016) and spoke about his adventures in the exciting world of entomology.

The first PTA Open Meeting for the 2018-2019 academic year took place this week in the East Lecture Hall. Presentations by Keystone’s Campus Security, Student Media Services, and Canteen Services were given to parents. In addition, a panel interview was conducted with students and faculty who shared exciting aspects of Keystone Life with the audience.

Renowned as the master of magical realism, Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s collected novellas, Leaf Storm, No One Writes to the Colonel, Chronicle of a Death Foretold introduces audiences to three narratives with unforgettable characters who are transported to realms that are as real as they are haunting.  

魔幻现实主义大师加布里埃尔·加西亚·马尔克斯（Gabriel Garcia Marquez)的中篇小说集，以《枯枝败叶》《没有人给他写信的上校》和《一桩事先张扬的凶杀案》三部作品，向读者讲述了三个故事，其中人物令人难忘，描写之传神仿佛在现实中真实存在。

Throughout the year, Keystone Academy celebrates the successful development of musicianship amongst our students. These celebrations occur through KAP concerts, Solo and Small ensemble concerts, workshops with visiting artists, performances in assemblies and tours to places like Austria and the ISCMS Schools Music Festival. Keystone will host the first-ever student-led Global Issues Network (GIN) Conference on campus October 19-20. The conference will center around global issues such as water scarcity due to political conflict, war, pollution, drought, climate change, and disease. Students have worked diligently to arrange for prominent Chinese scientists to speak on the above topics as they relate to Beijing. The conference will host an array of workshops led by students and faculty to introduce these issues, and to challenge our community to be agents of change in our ever-developing, modern world. During the GIN Conference (October 19-20), Keystone will host Mr. Salva Dut, a prominent humanitarian and philanthropist from South Sudan from October 19-23. On October 21st at 6:30pm in the Performing Arts Centre, Mr. Dut will share his global perspective on water inequality and conservation across the African continent due to war and conflict. This event is free, however all donations and proceeds from the event will be given to charities fighting water inequality across the African continent. Renowned author Patrick Kabanda will visit Keystone on October 19th from 5:00-6:00pm in the High School Library. Kabanda’s first book The Creative Wealth of Nations was published in May 2018 by Cambridge University Press. A Juilliard-trained organist, Kabanda also attended the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.He received Juilliard's William Schuman Prize for outstanding achievement and leadership in music in 2003. Besides concertizing and lecturing worldwide, he has taught at Phillips Academy Andover in the United States, consulted for the World Bank's Office of the Senior Vice President and Chief Economist, and contributed to the World Development Report 2016 and UNDP's Human Development Report 2015. He was awarded the 2013 Presidential Award for Citizenship and Public Service from Tufts University. This event is open to all Keystone parents, Middle and High School faculty and students. 

著名作家Patrick Kabanda 将于10月19日下午5点到6点在鼎石高中图书馆就“我们的文化基因：它的价值究竟何在”议题，发表主题演讲。Patrick Kabanda，《国家的创造性财富》（暂译，剑桥大学出版社2018年5月出版）一书的作者。他成长于混乱中的乌干达，音乐改变了他的人生——茱莉亚音乐学院毕业，并因在音乐上的成就及领导力获得该学院颁发的“舒曼奖”。除了音乐会与演讲之外，他还在Philips Academy执教，曾担任世界银行顾问，并为《2016世界发展报告》及联合国发展委员会的《2015发展报告》贡献良多。他还获得了Tufts大学的2013年“校长奖”，表彰起为公民及公共服务做出的贡献。他在演讲当中，将讲述艺术——作为我们每个国家、每个民族的文化基因——会为社会和我们自身，创造怎样的价值。本次活动对鼎石社区的家长、中学生和教职员工开放，欢迎您届时前来参加。
