UNITAR Shanghai Climate Week Sustainable Development Young Talent Challenge hosted by UNITAR, SHCW, and SSIDRF, as a part of UNITAR Shanghai Climate Week Inclusive Education Programme on Sustainable Development. The target of the challenge is : (1)Raising public awareness of Global issues of sustainable development. (2)Encourage innovative thinking and find feasible solutions to environmental and social problems. (3)Promote international exchanges and inspire the leadership and action of the young generation.


We expected that, by the end of the competition, participants would be better positioned to: Participants start their own personal SDG journey from idea to action, learning lectures from experts to understand how sustainable development affects our communities and world.


Through the competition, we look forward to:

  • Promote public awareness of the United Nations' mission, vision, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), understand the principles and current status of the SDGs, and develop a sustainable path of thinking to respond to climate action.
  • The competition committee, composed of international experts from the UN, academic institutions, universities, and corporations, guides participants in sustainable development, professional studies, and future career development.
  • Enhance competency and leadership, engage in dialogue with global youth on climate change and sustainable development, collaborate with global youth to showcase SDG initiatives and thoughts, and make your voice heard.
  • By learning, practicing, and participating in competitions, you can obtain a certificate jointly issued by UNITAR and Shanghai Climate Week and have the opportunity to receive letters of recommendation from mentors affiliated with the UN, universities, and related institutions.
  • Outstanding participants will be awarded the honorary title of "Youth Advocate of United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Prosperity Alliance - Shanghai Climate Week", and to be members of the UNITAR Youth Leadership Network.
  • Winners will be offered the opportunity to be a Youth Mentor for the United Nations Institute for Training and Research(UNITAR) - Shanghai Climate Week, as well as the chance to address the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP).

Timeline:

  • Step 1: Qualifying for the Challenge. Date: Sep 20, 2024 – Oct 31, 2024 (UTC +8 BEIJING) @ Online, By combining online learning with practical experience, submit learning certificates and time reports.
  • Step 2: PPS ( Practice Plan Solution ) on Sustainability, Optimize the practical report of the first stage, and submit plans and solutions. Date: Nov 5, 2024 – Nov 19, 2024 (UTC +8 BEIJING) @ Online.
  • Step 3: Public Participation: Share Your SDGs Solution Publicly. Date: Nov 24, 2024 – Nov 30, 2024 (UTC +8 BEIJING) @ Online.
  • Step 4: Offline Finals, The offline finals will be held and the winner will be announced. Date: Dec 15, 2024 (UTC +8 BEIJING) @ Shanghai.
